Through her unique combination of talents—music performance and composition, creative writing, and, though she is only 16 years old, a finely tuned sense of awareness regarding human emotion—Etana Caplin composes thoughtful songs that are at once incisive, engaging and uplifting. Acknowledging that music has had a therapeutic effect on her as she has worked through difficult times, Etana aims to create soulful music that can help others through their challenges. She knows life isn’t always easy, and she hopes sincerely that her songs can help. Etana uses music as a way to meditate on emotion. Rather than allowing her feelings to escape unused, Etana holds them back a bit until she can channel them into her songwriting, producing evocative material of uncommon sincerity. Though she had been writing poetry and playing the guitar for years, Etana combined those talents to start songwriting in earnest in 2006, just after her older brother Ben bought her a “Hello Kitty”—one she performs with to this day. After learning of his untimely passing the following year, she was further moved to help others by creating music that soothes and heals. In addition to her solo work, Etana plays in a new band called "People Like You..." with her high school friend, a young man named Hunter Thompson.
