Paranaense, nascida em Cornélio Procópio, desde 1980 vive em Curitiba. Médica pela Universidade Estadual de Londrina, exerceu Clínica Geral até 1997.
Desde 1998 trabalha exclusivamente como escritora: poeta, roteirista, letrista, com algumas incursões na ficção e dramaturgia. Produziu alguns dos espetáculos que roteirizou.

Em 2002, foi publicado seu livro ARTIGO OITAVO - POESIA ESCRITA, FALADA E CANTADA, com prefácio de Thiago de Mello, produção gráfica de Paola Faoro, acompanhado de CD com produção musical de Rodolfo Stroeter.
"Talvez a melhor definição da poética de Etel Frota tenha sido a do poeta Amarildo Anzolin, que a descreveu como uma poesia que “...fala do mundo da mulher e da dor da ausência de um jeito quase físico, embalando-se entre o melancólico e o sublime. Os humores femininos e as secreções do corpo e da alma se transformam em agentes e elementos filosóficos, nos quais a mulher e a mãe, o sexo e a maternidade dialogam com naturalidade...” O disco traz alguns poemas do livro recitados e/ou cantados nas vozes de Mônica Salmaso, Thiago de Mello, Cacá Carvalho, Nice Luz e da própria Etel, entre outros. Os acordes, quase que improvisados, nasceram dos poemas em tempo real, como em uma jam session entre música e palavra. Os poemas funcionaram como partituras dos músicos André Mehmari, Caíto Marcondes, Webster Santos, Teco Cardoso e Rodolfo Stroeter, entre outros. “O trabalho é um tanto poesia, um tanto música e um tanto a forma estética como foi organizado. O lançamento ocorreu no dia 30 de janeiro passado, durante a XXV Oficina de Música de Curitiba.
Brazilian writer who lives at Curitiba since 1980. Formerly a phisician, since 1997 she became a full-time writer. Besides poetry and lyrics, she has written and produced some drama and show scripts.
Her first book “Artigo oitavo: poesia escrita, falada e cantada” (writen, spoken and song poetry) was published in 2002. The preface was written by Thiago de Mello, and the book was designed by Paola Faoro. The book also includes a CD which was produced by Rodolfo Stroeter.
Maybe the best definition for Etel Frota’s poetry was given by the poet Amarildo Anzolin: “...a poetry that swings between the sad and the sublime. Female hormones and body/soul fluids become philosophical subjects in which the woman and the mother, sex and motherhood talk to each other in a natural way...”
Some of the poems are recorded in a CD, spoken and/or sung by Mônica Salmaso, Thiago de Mello, Cacá Carvalho, Nice Luz and by Etel herself, among others. The music, basically an improvisation, was born from the poems, in real time, like in a “jam session” among music and word. The poems served as musical scores to musicians such as André Mehmari, Caíto Marcondes, Webster Santos, Teco Cardoso and Rodolfo Stroeter, among others. “This work is a piece of poetry, a piece of music and a piece of the aesthetic way things were organized. They are three inseparable elements”, said the writer (Agulha magazine)
