| General | I'm interested in subversion and espionage, pop culture fads that are no more, and living in the past. I'm also vaguely interested in comic books, because I draw them for a living, and they've furnished me a lavish and excessive lifestyle. Thanks, comix! | | Music | Everyone knows that the Beach Boys made the best music ever recorded. I love them, and all orbiting surf rock bands from that period. I like to call people who have different tastes "ho-daddies". At the same time, I'm interested in what they used to call post-modern music, and love Depeche Mode, New Order, Erasure and the Cure. But only the stuff that came out between 1980 and 1994. Music sucked from then on. Or I got old. I don't know. | | Movies | Alfred Hitchcock and Orson Welles top my list as favorite directors and personalities. I play on looking and behaving just like them when I am even older and fatter, so get ready for lots of anecdotes about people I've met and how clever my comics are/were. | | Television | Sopranos, Six Feet Under, X-Files, Twin Peaks, Lost, 24 (even though this season isn't very good), Deadwood, Rome, Entourage, Penn and Teller's BS, and the History Channel. | | Books | I mostly read biographies about strange people, or people I perceive to be strange. History books too. No fiction. | | Heroes | I've got quite a few, but I admire my editor, Peter Tomasi quite a bit, and he's leaving editorial at DC Comics to become a writer full time. About me:
Yes, I'm Ethan Van Sciver. I'm a comic book artist living in Orlando, FL with my wife Sharis and my son Hunter. I'm a person seeking the truth only Scientology can provide, so if you're a Scientologist, feel free to email me about the alien living in the volcano. I'm this close to buying it.
Obviously then, I'm a very spiritual person. I believe in the Power of Me, and that everything I do affects everyone else in the world. But only everything I do. The Butterfly Effect stops there. So don't bother. I've got it covered.
I'm recovering from some loss I've suffered recently, the loss of my moustache. It was an important part of who I am, but it's gone now. WIZARD MAGAZINE chronicles it's effect on the comic industry in the latest issue, and provided theories as to what it may have meant, but they couldn't define in words what a moustache means to a man. They fell right into that rabbithole of darkness and conspiracy inevitable to outsiders contemplating big issues surrounding big people, and missed a simple truth: I am twice as handsome when I grow hair on my upper lip. Now that it is gone, I have taken up pipe smoking. I hope it will help improve my mystery-solving abilities.
There's so much more to learn about me. I really am fascinating. But that's why I have this page. To generously allow you access to me in order to clear up popular misconceptions. Let's start with:

I'd like to meet these dead people through a spiritualist: Lee Harvey Oswald, John Lennon, Ed Wood Jr., Tor Johnson, Jack Cole, Barry Goldwater, Joe McCarthy, the Rosenbergs, Falco, Jimmy Hoffa, Orson Welles, Alfred Hitchcock, John the Revelator, Jack Paar, Ronald Reagan, John F. Kennedy, Cary Grant, Marilyn Monroe, Richard Nixon, Buddy Holly and Eva Braun.
I'd like to meet these living people through charm and good luck: Paul Thomas Anderson, S Club 7, Vanilla Ice, New Kids on the Block and Matthew Wilder. All of these people would be involved in a gigantic party that I'd throw, and PT Anderson would document it through the art of film.
