Influences
Life is an obvious one: All my friends and fam who are doing what they love, Crushes, Crashes, Clashes, Dancing (house music is the closest to God I ever feel), Sipping Wine from Japan that tastes like Flowers, Being the most Libra-like Libra you will ever meet, Not being the person you signed up to get to know (lol), Money, Issues, etc. Musically, names you may (or may not know): There's KOOP, Sting (one of the best poets of ALL time),Alanis, Tribe, old Busta, Lil'Kim ("Queen Bitch" is partly responsible for why I rap) and Camp Lo and Black Star (P.S. I will buy ANYTHING that Mos puts out and not even question it), Madonna, Rah Digga, Bahamadia, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Erykah, Nancy Sinatra, Aretha,Tina Turner, I'm a huge fan of Hole, The Wu Tang Clan, Billie and Nina, Marilyn Manson (I WANT you to challenge me on THAT one), Radiohead, Coldplay, Curtis Mayfield, MadLib, Big L (RIP)...I know that I am missing a ton...Judy Garland, Georgia Anne, Barbara Streisand...okay that's enough for now...Patti LaBelle and Jennifer Holiday (because they don't mind getting ugly for the sake of an awe inspiring performance)...and Kid Rock. tee hee
Sounds Like
WHO THE HELL KNOWS...Last year, a writer in Philly Weekly described my music as -and I quote-"Neptunesy-acid-folk-house-hop". No lie. I couldn't make that up if I tried. Maybe think if The Chemical Brothers and Chad Hugo somehow met up with the Boot Camp Clik or Ghost to have tea and biscuits or something and by the end, they're all like---"You know, we should do a song together." And then God only knows how, the shit actually happens. You know, like that. The Happy Pills Mixtape is an extreme take on that concept. The EP will be available on this page soon...take a chance, invest a few bucks and see for yourself. Thanks, Management. Ooh Ooh...or you can check this out.
Ethel Cee first came to national attention as one half of Versus (one of the illest female mc-duos Philadelphia has ever seen) and under the umbrella of the tight-knit hip-hop network Squadzilla. After three years in the duo and the SZ collective (including performances at The Painted Bride, The Black Lily in Philadelphia and Monster Park in San Francisco), she struck out on her own as a solo artist. Cee has been re-introducing herself to Philly audiences as well as gaining the attention of crowds in New York and DC. With opening performances for everyone from Grand Agent and Immortal Technique to Seun Kuti & Egpyt 80, media and crowds alike are beginning to get the idea that Cee's range goes further than 16 bars. Deftly combining drum'n'bass, house, and hip-hop and a resume getting longer by the minute, her rhymes about love, loss and frontin' are sure to position her as the girl "who's got next" in the hip-hop/dance scene. E.Cee is also a popular host for infamous Philly party favorites such as the Zodiac, Living Legends and more. She recently starting working with Break Bread Project's Nut House and completed The Happy Pills Mixtape, a follow-up to her self titled EP. Featuring production from Doc Martin and Doc Fader, E. Cee's debut The Ethel Cee Ep is available now. She also appears on Squadzilla's first LP "The Illadelph Escape" out NOW. Currently she is gearing up for her first solo LP. Title TBA.
