Ethel Mae Bourque learned to sing in the fields with her Papa, Sidney Bourque, a self sufficient farmer on the Bayou Vermillion who spoke only Cajun French. Ethel has composed many songs which have now been recorded by the Lost Bayou Ramblers and other Cajun groups. Ethel Mae lives near Maurice, Louisiana, and at 73 years old, keeps herself busy and fed raising hens and tending to her garden.
Ethel's band, Les Bougres Farouch (the wild boys), consists of Louis Michot on fiddle, David Michot on guitar, and various other local musicians on the Cajun scene. The band makes appearances for special events, such as the opening of Couers Battailleurs, a CBC documentary on Francophone Louisianians.
