Bio
Home is wherever the next performance takes him, the USA through Europe to Australia, with many stops in between such as China and Singapore. Since 1998 Eugene has recorded four studio CDs with a full band. His previous release Eugene ‘Hideaway’ Bridges featured solos and duos with friends and fellow musicians met on the road. This CD was nominated for two Blues Foundation, Blues Music Awards 2008. With numerous requests for a CD that captures the Eugene live sound, March 2009 saw Eugene and his band record a live performance at Chango’s Havana Club, San Antonio, Texas. Influences
#2 Living Blues Radio Chart 12/1/09 #3 Living Blues Radio Chart 1/1/10 “This is how I deal with the blues,” Eugene Hideaway Bridges warns us before tearing into some fat, jazzy chord progressions that ignite his 70-plus-minute, boogie-laden set at Chango’s Havana Club in San Antonio. Bridges proceeds to burn the place down with an irrepressible rhythmic tour-de-force and poised, good-time sense of showmanship-it’s all documented on Bridges’ latest Armadillo release, Live in San Antonio. Bridges wears his allegiance to the blues on his sleeve, but perhaps more importantly he displays his versatility here as a performer by employing B.B. King-inspired stagecraft, along with Buddy Guy-esque banter and a charismatic soul man persona that steals a page directly from masters like Sam Cooke. - Mark Uricheck, Living Blues Issue #205 Vol. 41. #1 Think of Eugene “Hideaway” Bridges as a combination of a young and powerful B.B. King meets the soulful Sam Cooke. I recently saw Bridges live and this record is the perfect way to recall that night’s excitement. - Art Tipaldi, Blues Revue March 2010 I have enjoyed this a lot over the last few weeks and it’s a marvellous little album that offers a decent hour’s worth of solid music, and if you weren’t at Chango’s on the night, here’s your chance to hear what you missed. Should’ve been there! - Ian Jones, Juke Blues No 69 A large man with a huge grin, he plays the blues to make you feel good, where showboating is banned and the groove and rhythm is all. He's as much about soul as he is blues, and soul is something bridges possesses in spades, making this album a joyous experience. - Jeremy Searle, RockNReel Vol 2 Issue 20 -
