In the few months since their first performance, Sydney five-piece Evan and the Brave has sent the cynical heads of the Sydney music scene spinning. Taking audiences on a genre defying journey with every show, the band’s lush acoustic-driven tones and achingly beautiful harmonies have stayed in the hearts and minds of audiences long after the final note has been played – and people are starting to take notice. Led by singer-songwriter, Daniel Mifsud (recently returned from a residency in New York City) the group brings Mifsud’s increasingly mature lyrics to life. Fusing influences as far flung as the Americana of the The Band and Neil Young through to the swagger of Solomon Burke or Otis Redding, and a pinch of deep south gospel thrown in, the band’s live performances are generating a devoted following across Australia’s east-coast. With Chris Collins (Josh Pyke, Chasing Bailey), Ben Rodgers (Jimmy Barnes, Mahalia Barnes, Diesel, Guy Sebastian), Adrian Petlevanny (Jade MacRae, Pnau) and Yanya Boston (Patti LaBelle), Evan & The Brave is a collection of some of the best artists Mifsud has worked with from as far back as his high school days, and the familiarity has led to tight knit unit on and off the stage. After cracking a major summer festival roster spot after only playing 8 shows (2010 Peats Ridge Festival); and playing on the same stage as the likes of Hungry Kids of Hungary and Deep Sea Arcade, 2011 is set to be a huge year for these five.
