FAQ's
..
How is the Evangelical Catholic Church different from the Roman Catholic Church?..
We are a Catholic Faith Community that continues the celebration of the Liturgical, Sacramental and Spiritual Life of Catholicism independent of Rome. Aside from our few sacramental reforms and our unconditional commitment to welcome and serve all members of the human family, we have not made any radical changes that would impede or confuse anyone during our Eucharistic celebrations
..
Does the Evangelical Catholic Church permit married priests and women priests?..
We welcome married priests - male or female - to the ranks of the diocesan clergy. Women have the same vocational options within the Church as men.
..
Does the Evangelical Catholic Church welcome vocations to the vowed religious life?..
Life consecrated by the profession of the evangelical counsels is a from of living by which the Faithful, following Christ more closely under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, are totally dedicated to God, so that, having dedicated themselves to His honor, the up building of the Church, and the salvation of the world, they strive for the perfection of charity in service to the Kingdom of God. Thus vocations to the religious life are greatly encouraged and supported.
..
How does the Evangelical Catholic Church fit into the larger picture of historic Catholicism?..
We are a new branch upon the historic tree of Catholicism. Our apostolic succession is firmly connected to the historic "roots" of Catholicism. This is why our Orders are completely valid.
..
Is the Evangelical Catholic Church an open and welcoming Catholic faith community?..
Part of our vocational mandate is to unconditionally welcome and embrace all individuals and families whom we meet. We particularly welcome all those who have been injured or disenfranchised through religious bigotry or hatred, fear or ignorance. The Evangelical Catholic Church welcomes individuals and couples who have been divorced and remarried, as well as gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and those of the trans-gendered community, and those questioning their sexuality.
..
Does the Evangelical Catholic Church permit same sex marriage?..
The matrimonial covenant, by which a couple establishes between themselves a partnership of the whole life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses; this covenant between Baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a Sacrament. The Evangelical Catholic Church witnesses and celebrates the marriages of persons of the same sex, and declares that these marriages to be valid and equal sacraments of Matrimony in the Church as any other marriage celebrated by the Church.
..
Does the Evangelical Catholic Church permit divorced persons the opportunity to remarry?..
We permit individuals who had been previously married to re-enter the Sacrament of Marriage. Recognizing the reality that some marital bonds may dissolve and cannot be reconciled, the Church does not believe that the Sacramental Grace can remain present in a marital relationship in which there is emotional or physical violence, permanent abandonment, or the proven inability to maintain marital fidelity. The Grace of the Sacrament is not present in such relationships of pain and misery. Thus, the Church must allow persons the freedom to leave such relationships and to permit such persons the opportunity to invite Christ into a spirit-filled Marriage.
..
Does the Evangelical Catholic Church permit Family Planning?..
Yes, we encourage families to consult with their doctors to decide which methods of family planning would best suit their needs.
