You have the natural talent of rocking the boat, thwarting the system.
And while this may not seem big, it can be.
It's people like you who serve as the catalysts to major cultural changes.
You're just a bit behind the scenes, so no one really notices.
MUSIC IS LIFE! Without Music Life and Love Would Not be Worth it.
I like everything! Not a lot of Country, but I some. Classical, Rock, Pop, R&B, Jazz, Hip Hop, Gospel. Everything. Lately, I've been listening to, Jason & deMarco, Altar Boyz, Disney's On The Record, Josh Groban, Il Divo Queen,(I LOVE Freddy and QUEEN), Rent, Five for Fighting, Maroon 5, Michael Buble, Bowling for Soup, Mika Kicks Butt, Carole King, Jim Croce, The Doors, Curt Cobain, Plain White T's, John Mayer, Savage Garden, Scissor Sisters, Robbie Williams....... Evan needs to go look at CD's and remember what all I have and what all I want....
My wife and daughter and I all love Broadway Musicals, especially the innovative, non retread ones from movies with the exception of "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels". Whatever happened to the Sondheims, the Bernsteins, the Fosses, the Jonathon Larsons, Jerome Robbins, and even Andrew Lloyd Webbers. I resent "Young Frankenstein" commanding $700 per seat tickets. I would love to see "Naked Boys's Singing", "Line", "Vagina Monologues", "Bare-The Musical", "Shakespeare In the Park" "Death of a Salesman", "Picnic", ........
The wife, my dream, and I saw RENT at the Nederlander Theater IN NY and saw Norman Leo Butz in the role of Roger. Talk about a talenter man. He went on to play in Wicked, and I believe won a Tony Award for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. We saw Bernadette Peters and Tom Wopat in Annie Get Your Gun. It was good, but Norman and I cried all the way thru Rent. We saw Les Miz, Stomp (The ceiling fell.), and Movin' Out.
Movies
Rent, Talented Mr. Ripley, Bourne Identity, Bourne Ultimatum, and Bourne Supremecy when I see it, West Side Story, Double Indemnity, Rear Window, Brokeback Mountain, Goodbye and Good Luck, Syriana, Moulain Rouge, Pirates of the Carribean, Madascar, Napolean Dynamite
You are so open minded that your brain may have fallen out!
Well, not really. But you may be confused on where you stand.
You don't have a judgemental bone in your body, and you're very accepting.
You enjoy the best of every life philosophy, even if you sometimes contradict yourself.
Currently reading Opus Dei by John L. Allen, Jr. It appears to be a very balanced view of the controversial organization. I loved The da Vinci code and wanted to learn more.
My wife and daughter and Superman. (Everyone needs at least 1 superhero to believe in.)
You Are 40% Left Brained, 60% Right Brained
The left side of your brain controls verbal ability, attention to detail, and reasoning.
Left brained people are good at communication and persuading others.
If you're left brained, you are likely good at math and logic.
Your left brain prefers dogs, reading, and quiet.
The right side of your brain is all about creativity and flexibility.
Daring and intuitive, right brained people see the world in their unique way.
If you're right brained, you likely have a talent for creative writing and art.
Your right brain prefers day dreaming, philosophy, and sports.

..> I am a person of faith, a Christian, and a United Methodist. Anglican at its roots, The United Methodist Church was founded by John Wesley -a thinking man, an Oxford scholar trying to live his life after the example of Christ. The UMC is built on a theology of grace. It does not endorse a literal interpretation of scripture. Like most Mainline Protestant denominations, the UMC interprets scripture using a historical-critical method. In addition, John Wesley brought to us what is known as the Quadrilateral: Scripture, Tradition, Experience and Reason. This is the official UM tool for theological reflection.
In spite its value of biblical scholarship, the UMC officially considers homosexuality to be "incompatible with Christian teaching." This is mostly due to the fact that official church policy is voted on by elected delegates - equal parts clergy and equal parts laity. Unfortunately, too many of those elected delegates are either ignorant of the truth or afraid to reveal what they consider to be truth.
You see, the UMC insists that their ordained clergy have no less than a masters degree from a very select group of seminaries. In addition, they are required to participate in no less than 30 hours of continuing education each year. The problem? Their knowledge doesn't always get passed along to those of us in the pews. We must insist that our pastors share their knowledge and preach and teach with both integrity and depth. In all honesty, if I wanted "Chicken Soup for the Soul" I could stay home and read that myself. And if I preferred a literal interpretation of holy scripture I could join the denomination down the street. We (the laity) must do our part as well. When a pastor dares to truthfully share the riches of his or her seminary education we must expect to be challenged and be willing to grow.
Obviously, I disagree with my church's position on homosexuality. (Even more at the root of the problem, I disagree with the agendas and behaviors that are funded and fueled by the IRD, Confessing Movement, Good News and the like. They are neither Wesleyan nor Christ-like, but that is another story.) All that being said, I still love my church. I am also proud to say that the UMC doesn't ever close the books on a subject - any subject. We've been wrong before, and when that happens we admit it (OUT LOUD), ask for forgiveness, and reconcile.
I am not alone. There are thousands of United Methodists who are organized and working to provide educational events and dialogue opportunities in an effort to love our neighbors - ALL of them. We do not believe sexual preference is a choice. We do not believe homosexuality is a sin. We believe that sexuality is a gift from God to be responsibly, mutually, and lovingly enjoyed by everyone. We do not believe this is incompatible with scripture. We believe the scriptures have been misinterpreted. Continuing to misintrepret scripture in light of all we know to be fact is, in my opinion, negligent.
We wish to live a life of radical hospitality and be inclusive of each and every human being exactly as God created them to be. We wish to rock the vote in the United Methodist Church so that the official denominational position on homosexuality will change. This can only be accomplished through education and dialogue and there is no time to waste. The next voting opportunity will take place at General Conference in April of 2008 in Ft Worth, Texas. Elected delegates from every UM conference in the world will convene to worship, pray, discuss, and vote. Homosexuality, once again, will be the hot button issue.
In my annual conference, The Texas Annual Conference, a faithful and courageous group organized in the mid 90's and call themselves Breaking the Silence. This group consists of clergy and laity, gay and straight United Methodist Christians who wholeheartedly subscribe to the denominational slogan -plus our own twist.
"Open hearts, open minds, open doors - NO exceptions!"
This is not an official Breaking the Silence MySpace (there isn't one) and I don't officially speak on their behalf. I am simply a dedicated member of this incredibly compassionate group of people determined to right this wrong - determined to do what we are convinced Jesus himself would do if he still walked the earth. I invite you to join us.

"God's not going to rest simply because the church is resistant. God's going to keep on, as God does, for full inclusion, full celebration of all the diversity we have.
No question in my mind."
-Rev. Greg Dell
"We need to recognize that the repetition of ignorance does not turn it into truth."

"I intend to speak out against this rising tide of homophobia in both the church and the world today. Silence constitutes the betrayal of all that I hold sacred. I hope you will also join in this public witness."

Hey Evan Do you think you, Kathy and Amanda will make it to the reunion this year? Jackie and Jon are probably going, and I should be there too! Love Jenny
Wow, I can't imagine no power for a week. I would have been in bed too! I hope things are better for you now. It doesn't get nearly that cold here. I'm doing good. Working through some things, and "finding myself" At age 37, you would think I should have already done that by now, hehe.
I'm sorry that you are feeling depressed. Much of mine has gone away, due to moving to a house. I feel so much better here. There are still money issues, but I once said that I wouldn't worry about it as much, as long as we had a house to live in, and a yard for the kids. Now that we have that, I'm keeping my word, to myself, lol. I hope you can find some solutions to make your life easier. I'm here anytime you need me. : )
hey Evan, thanks so much for listening, I really appreciate the support! If you get a chance, would you mind joining the mailing list on my page? That way I can let you know about any new music and if I make it to Kansas anytime soon for a show. Thanks again, keep in touch
