SPACE (Society for the Preservation of Art & Culture in Evanston)
SPACE provides a flexible creative canvas for the community. Serving as an ideal venue for music, dance, visual arts, theater, and literary arts, the versatile 3,000 square foot area offers exceptional sight lines and sound. The rustic urban décor is highlighted by the wood floor, made from the original timbers of an East Coast barn, as well as vaulted ceilings and exposed brick walls. With collapsible tables and chairs and portable staging and technologically advanced video and audio recording equipment, the S.P.A.C.E is versatile as well as stylish. By combining flexibility with functionality, it’s a venue that could easily be used for hosting a business meeting by day and showcasing an up-and-coming band by night.
Booking information
We request that all booking inquiries go through Sonic Bids, and that phone calls and unannounced visits be used only as a very last resort. If you're not setup on Sonic Bids, please send audio samples and information to info@evanstonspace.com We promise we'll review your music, but please be patient as our list of submissions is currently quite lengthy.
FAQ
Where is SPACE?
We're at 1245 Chicago Ave, on the south east corner of the Dempster-Chicago intersection. We're easily accessible by public transportation, just a block east of the Dempster St purple line "el" stop. You'll enter through the same entrance as Union Pizzeria, and find SPACE signs just inside the door.
How old do I need to be to attend a show at SPACE?
At SPACE we're trying to be as inclusive as possible, and that means all ages are welcome here. If there is excessive crying or drooling, we may ask you to take a lap. Otherwise, come on down.
Is there food available during the show?
There's a fabulous restaurant called Union Pizzeria that's in the same building and they will be glad to bake a pie for you to bring back.
Drinks?
Drinks for everyone. Alcoholic beverages are available to those of age (we card pretty hard) and we've got a nice selection of non-alcoholic things, too.
Is there parking at SPACE?
Not inside the Club itself (though it was an automobile dealership at one time). There is plenty of on-street parking along Dempster Street and Chicago Avenue, and a free municipal garage right across the street from us.
Are there chairs?
There are chairs with arms and without arms, though all of them have legs, and we have pretty little cocktail tables and sometimes a nice couch or two...If it's a really popular show all bets are off and we'll try to stuff in as many people as the fire marshall will allow. PURCHASING ADVANCE TICKETS DOES NOT GUARANTEE YOU A SEAT. Some of our more lively shows will not have any seating at all, as the artists request that the audience be standing. More times than not seating is offered on a first-come first-served basis. Once all seating is full, standing room will be available. No refunds will be offered, so arrive early to ensure your seating.
Can I use a credit card to pay for tickets and drinks?
We like cash better, but if you buy tickets online you can use credit cards. Credit cards are accepted at the bar, but may not be used to purchase tickets at the door.
How can I buy advanced tickets?
Through TicketWeb!
I live down the street, can't I just come in and buy them in person?
We know it's a bummer, but we don't have a physical box office or anyone here to sell you a ticket in person. We do make advance tickets a smidge cheaper, to help soften the blow of the ticket fees you'll pay to buy tickets online.
How do I know if a show is sold out?
If a show is completely sold out, we'll post it on this website. If the website doesn't say the show is sold out, count on us having tickets available for purchase at the door starting half an hour before the scheduled show.
Can I reserve a table?
Yes. It's much cooler but it does cost more. You'll see the option available on the ticketing page of the event, if table seating is available.
