"Do not go by the path more taken. Go, instead, where there is not a path, and blaze a trail for all to follow." Don't know who the hell wrote this, but it's been my mantra since I was a little kid. Sometimes I get a little caught up in it, and it bites me in the rear...Progressive theatre, occupational therapy, early childhood development, dance theatre, drum circles, all dance from samba to modern to Irish stepping and beyond; being in the world, and of it. Perpetually seeking out new opportunities to place myself in the position of novice, so that I can always be learning, and also to keep my ego in check.
  • Music

Black Earth. Illusionist Electric Orchestra. Muse Oasis. Oliver Rajamani.Os Mutantes. Eric Satie. Allman Bros. Early Stones. the Velvet Underground. the Black Angels. 70s Bowie, T Rex, Roxy Music. Mocean Worker. the Flaming Lips. Amon Tobin. Aphex Twin. Sigur Ros or DeVotchKa for when I'm feeling weepy. Upper Egypt Ensemble. Interpol. Good middle-eastern, none of the over-synthesized stuff (ironic, since I listen mostly to electronic music. I suppose I like some delineation in my music styles). Live drum circles. Bonobo. Bassnectar. Pentaphobe. Zachary J. Mechlem. Beats Antique. My new fave is Exstus (check 'em out on Myspace. Sounds of the Divine is pure listening bliss!). DJ Viajero for his incredible taste in music and his masterful manipulations of it.
  • Movies

The Three Amigos. Abren Los Ojos. Lonesome Dove. What the Bleep Do We Know??!!?? Planet of the Apes (but only the first one with Charleton Heston and Kim Hunter!). Forrest Gump. All Tony Gatlif, Carlos Saura and Wes Anderson movies. Etoiles. the Children of Theatre Street. American Bellydancer. Oliver Twist. Pumping Iron, both movies. Delicatessen, City of Lost Children, Amelie. the Nightmare Before Christmas, ney, ANYthing Tim Burton, especially the claymation stuff.... the Wiz. The Wizard of Oz. Carmen Jones. Stormy Weather. Annie (yes, I sing the songs at the top of my lungs while driving down I-35. Shhhh...don't tell anybody). Gilda, or anything with Rita Hayworth in it. anything with Marlena Dietrich, Josephine Baker, Hedy Lamarr, or Louise Brooks, even the bad ones. Anything with Audrey Hepburn except the ones where she's supposed to not look pretty. A Beautiful Mind. Mulholland Drive. 2001, a Space Odyssey. Logan's Run. All Star Wars movies, even the crummy ones. Jerry MacGuire. Anything with Naomi Watts. Dance For Camera. ALL dance movies, including a few I should be embarrassed to admit!
  • Television

nope. Okaaaay... Curb Your Enthusiasm. Deadwood. All nanny tv shows. 30 Days. 30 Rock. Plus, I had to watch to see myself when Rollergirls aired (don't blink, or you'll miss me!). I also liked American Gothic and Twin Peaks when they were on. And my husband and I snuggle up to watch The Family Guy every Sunday night. The family that laughs together STAYS together...

  • Heroes

Mary Poppins for being a bad-ass with a pure heart and a generous nature. Princess Leia for helping me accept my own personality. Allison Orr of Forklift Danceworks for having the Midas touch and bringing out the best in everyone she meets. Stacey Lizette for sharing her incredible knowledge of Suhaila technique and continuously inspiring me to find and achieve my own perfection. My dad for his athleticism, true grit, grace, and honesty. At seventy, he still can outrun me. My mother for being the most perfect muse a girl could ever have! Z-Helene Christopher for initiating my return to the stage in '02, thus changing the course of my life. Veleda Roehl for showing me the light within the darkness that is (was?) me. Jose Luis Bustamante of Sharir-Bustamante for teaching me discipline and not to be a half-ass. Darla Johnson for sharing her passion for improvisational dance and contact improv, thus giving me permission to live life as in a waking dream. My husband for revolutionizing my life with his technological know-how and keeping me outfitted with the latest in electronic gadgetry. The lovely, accomplished women of Mirage and Typsy Gypsys who inspire me to give 100% of myself in rehearsals, performance, in both my careers, and in LIFE (thank you for having my back!). Raquel Welch just because. Anti-heroes: People who wish to leave others in the dark, and who won't accept social responsibility. Folks who refuse to share their gifts, for whatever reason. Come on out and play! We're waiting...
