    Boom King's Interests
GeneralSee "about me." Also, see "Encyclopedia Britannica."
MusicCurrent obsessions= Céu, Imogen Heap, and Neung Phak. Also: Van Morrison, They Might Be Giants, Gorillaz, Camille, Mozart's Requiem, Whipped Cream and Other Delights Rewhipped, Rasputina, Cake, Kansas, Hildegard Von Bingen, Sting (to those who think he's no longer cool: if you are still as cool as he is in your mid 50's, you'll have some room to speak), Verve Remixed, Warren Zevon, Innocence Mission, Brahm's Reqiuem, Brooks Williams, Smash Mouth, David Gray, Eva Cassidy, Garbage, Huey Lewis, Johnny Cash, King's X, Sinead Lohan, and, last but certainly not least, Weird Al Yankovic (all bow). Local Bands: Moon Gypsies, Awsome Car Funmaker, German Art Students, the Buffali, The Gomers, Amy Curl (no relation... well, at lest not any longer), Gothsicles. Employee Of The Month
MoviesCity of Lost Children. To Catch a Thief. Fifth Element. Wings of Desire. Gladiator. Harvey. Batman Begins (finally, thank you God). Dark City. The Big Sleep. Labyrinth. The Thin Man. Hudson Hawk. Underworld. The Station Agent. Anything with Jennifer Connelly. Anything with Grace Kelly. Anything with Cary Grant. Anything with Russell Crowe. (the latter two because I want to be them, the first two because I want to be, um, with them). And, last but not least, UHF (all bow).
TelevisionBuffy the Vampire Slayer. Wild Wild West (purge the atrocious Will Smith movie version of this 60's TV show from your mind). Greatest American Hero. Six Feet Under. Dead Like Me. (Note all of these things are on DVD) The Daily Show and The Colbert Report (Yaaay iTunes! Jon Stewart for the cable-less). Heroes. History Detectives. Whatever late night talk show is on if I'm not out and I don't feel like going to bed. And, last but certainly not least, Al TV and the short lived Weird Al Show (all bow).
BooksThat Hideous Strength and anything else by C. S. Lewis. Good Omens and anything else by Neil Gaimen. The Greater Trumps and anything else by Charles Williams. How the Irish Saved Civilization and anything else by Thomas Cahill. Tolkein, of course. Foucoult's Pendulum -and- The Name of the Rose. Born in Blood -and- Dungeon, Fire, and Sword.    Boom King's Blurbs
About me:
I am both a particle and a wave. The things which allow me to go on despite my indeterminate state include: Inklings. Knights Templar. Good beer. Gorillaz. Cats, dogs, and other animals we pretend we own. Charles Williams. Macintosh (the Apple, not the apple). Dungeons and Dragons. Anglican spirituality. Really good beer (Lake Louie rules and sad, sad tidings to those of you who love beer and do not live in central Wisconsin). The OED. NPR. iPod as a means of feeding audiobook addiction. Intense physical intimacy that you can still taste on your tongue the next day. Thomas Cahill. My cat is cuter than your cat. Sarah Vowell and Tina Fey are the sexiest women alive--except for whatever woman I'm talking to at the moment. Everyone should call Van Morrison "Uncle Van" and stop listening to anything he's recorded since some yet to be determined point in the 1980's. No, really, my cat has been scientifically proven to be the cutest cat in the known universe. If beatification existed in the church of the mind, Jim Henson would be a saint. The only thing better than learning is teaching, and the only thing better than teaching is learning. Paradox is an essential part of the mind of a person who is both sane and paying attention. The best poetry the romantic poets ever wrote was about how they could no longer write poetry. Dancing is best done with eyes closed and a sixth sense among the flailing bodies on the dace floor that allows them to avoid collision. The soul is here for its own joy, the mind for loving a true love... mysteries are not meant to be solved, the eye goes blind when it only wants to see why. I plagiarized that last bit.

What do I think is funny? Well, apparently I am: ..TR>
the Wit
(61% dark, 15% spontaneous, 26% vulgar)
your humor style:
CLEAN | COMPLEX | DARK

You like things edgy, subtle, and smart. I guess that means you're probably an intellectual, but don't take that to mean pretentious. You realize 'dumb' can be witty--after all isn't that the Simpsons' philosophy?--but rudeness for its own sake, 'gross-out' humor and most other things found in a fraternity leave you totally flat.

I guess you just have a more cerebral approach than most. You have the perfect mindset for a joke writer or staff writer.

Your sense of humor takes the most thought to appreciate, but it's also the best, in my opinion.

You probably loved the Office. If you don't know what I'm talking about, check it out here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/theoffice/.

PEOPLE LIKE YOU: Jon Stewart - Woody Allen - Ricky Gervais
Who I'd like to meet:
People with ideas. People of faith. People who want to share a bottle of wine. People of both transcendence and essence. Spiritual atheists and religious septics. The goth looking girl in a mini skirt I saw riding her bike down East Main while carrying a bunch of flowers. The guy who wrote the "menards" commercial theme song so I can kick him in the shins.

Is Graveyard Book the one with the poem? If you own it, can I borrow it when your done? I know I haven't finished the other one...but...ummm...Gaiman's easier to read than DFW. And I need to find my stupid bifocals. Maybe he'll win the Pulitzer one day. Not sure about the Nobel but that'd be awfully cool. Or maybe you'll win it with your mad writing skills.

I read so much faster than I could listen that I don't usually do the audio book thing (nice when moving long distances though), but it is good to hear that they did Soon I Will Be Invincible right. I will tell some of my non-reading pals to encourage them to digest it somehow. Thanks :-)
