HeroesWonder Woman, Batwoman, Batgirl, Supergirl, Catwoman, Princess Leia, Agent 99, Emma Peel, Tallulah Bankhead and I especially love my Critics! Here is some of the feedback I have attracted over the years: “Hartogh draws on well-known figures from popular culture to undermine sexism, racism and homophobia” Melissa Giles LINK disability magazine June 2007 “As Courier Mail photographer Rob Maccoll drove towards "Wonder Woman's West End headquarters" he knew exactly the picture he would take … a true Queensland character … Brisbane entertainer Evelyn Hartogh decked out in her loud Wonder Woman costume. Her photograph is the September illustration of the Courier Mail's Views of Queensland 2007 calendar.” THE COURIER MAIL December 2006 "Evelyn Hartogh gets severely lost in the translation and descends into a preachy soapbox piece that accuses the audience of being racist, sexist, homophobic bigots. In a nutshell: A great idea that needs to return to the drawing board" Dan Evans SCENE 2006 "CRITICS PICKS: Dan Evans picks ‘Kick Kiss Kill’. Wonder Woman, Barbie and Lillith all in one performance? All facing a postmodern existential crisis? Hell yeah! Why Not? In an age of comic-book movie remakes, it’s about time some of these characters migrated to the boards. Writer/ Performer Evelyn Hartogh gives us an altered perspective on some famous pop culutre [sic] icons that promises to be both comical and off the wall" Dan Evans SCENE 2006 (notice its the same guy who didn't like politics or being challenged in the same show he is looking forward to here - somebody had built up expectations!) "Evelyn you’re all f***** up and full of s***. Maybe I’m just coming down with a bug, but I felt physically sick reading your pseudo-intellectual, half-assed, femanazi bulls***. Femanism [sic] should be about equal opportunity for women … that’s it. Stop your insecent [sic] whining about humanity realising the differences between males and females. While the rest of society get on with life, you’re left screaming at yourself about extremist doctrines of a radical, and permanently obsolete ideology. God help you, coz you’ll explode with anger and hatred before any intelligent lifeform takes you seriously" Nathan Brooks SEMPER 2001 "Not one you’d invite to drinks without first putting on your glitteriest thinking cap and undies – there’s a health mix of brains and left field dress sense in this girl, who has been in the Brisbane fringe media spotlight since her first performances in 1992. … Her scripts where the impromptu is secondary but used as vinegar on the tongue lashes, are written with the sort of intent that needs footnotes." Margaret Smithhurst SEMPER 1998 "If you dig the patriarchy and need a big fucken wake-up call. [SOLDOUT] is for you" Ellen SEMPER 1997 "Evelyn Harthogh [sic] stole the show" Anonymous SEMPER 1995 "Evelyn Hartogh doesn’t believe art should be confined to gallery walls. The 22-year-old New Farm performance artist dresses up as Wonder Woman and uses a vacuum cleaner prop to make a statement about women in the 90s" Des Partridge THE COURIER MAIL 1994 For more quotes have a look at the Media section of www.empressev.net. Wonder Woman!!

Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman.
All the world's waiting for you,
and the power you possess.

In your satin tights,
Fighting for your rights
And the old Red, White and Blue.

Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman.
Now the world is ready for you,
and the wonders you can do.

Make a hawk a dove,
Stop a war with love,
Make a liar tell the truth.

Wonder Woman,
Get us out from under, Wonder Woman.
All our hopes are pinned on you.
And the magic that you do.

Stop a bullet cold,
Make the Axis fall,
Change their minds, and change the world.

Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman.
You're a wonder, Wonder Woman.

Hello Evelyn,
The vacuuming wonder woman is how society tries to make me feel everyday, so evertime i vacuum i curse.......ALOT.
Does this change a thing?
No, but i'll be damned if i'm going to do housework with a submissive smile of feminine glee on my face.
Take care, Excellent work.

Thanks Evelyn. Thesis is getting cracked and will be done around July next year. I'm just looking at art that talks about relationality and communication. It's totally fucking boring by now.

As for Shortbus, haven't seen it but heard great things about it. My friend has a little role in it I think. I have no social life. None at all.

Hi Ev - thanks for being the first to post on my myspace, and for inspiring me to get there in the first place!

Glad you liked the blog. Unlike a lot of people I know, I haven't written a complete poem since high school, but about every 3 or 4 years (literally) I come up with a fragment, usually a couplet. So there you are.

Looking forward to Hello Kitty! party in all shades of roses!

Love,

Tanya xoxo
