Evening Song was founded in 1996 as a non-profit choir with a Christian focus. In the last 10 years, this Dallas-based vocal ensemble of 40 voices has entertained audiences throughout the Metroplex, as well as traveled to other communities in Virginia and Utah, sharing its joy and love of beautiful choral music.
Evening Song’s broad-based repertoire of inspirational and secular music, level of musical excellence and a desire to share the art of choral music with the masses allows them to bring music to audiences in such places as the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, the Bass Performance Hall, SMU McFarlin Auditorium, JFK Auditorium and many churches, assisted living centers and with our new partnerships with the Arts, art galleries throughout the Metroplex, NE Texas, Virginia and Utah.
Evening Song is not just a performing choir; they are also a recording choir. In fact, they started as a CD recording project that blossomed into the performing ensemble they are today. ES has released three CDs for purchase so far in its 10 years of existence.
Its first CD “I Stand All Amazed” is an inspirational collection of hymn arrangements and original compositions many of which were arranged and composed by Evening Song’s Artistic Director David Featherstone. Their second CD, “On the Way to Bethlehem”, is a compilation of uplifting songs for the Christmas Season. And, thirdly, Evening Song’s 2003 – 2004 seasons were captured on the CD “Nearer My God to Thee”.
DAVID FEATHERSTONE (conductor/composer) is an accomplished instrumentalist on the clarinet, bassoon, French horn, guitar and percussion. He graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance (guitar) and a minor in Theory and Composition. He has taught classical guitar at Mountain View and Cedar Valley Colleges and served as Chorus Master for the North Texas Oratorio Society’s production of Crawford Gates’ “Visions of Eternity”, performed at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in 1995. David’s vocal experiences consist of singing with the UTA A Cappella and University Choirs and singing with the Dallas Symphony Chorus. A composer as well as conductor, David has composed numerous hymn arrangements as well as small choral works and organ arrangements, several which can be heard on Evening Song’s recordings “I Stand All Amazed”, “Nearer My God to Thee”, and “On the Way to Bethlehem”.
