1966, Billy Wilder, Paul Delvaux's sleepwalking blondes, John Cheever and next in the lineage, Hal David, Johnny Mercer, Harold Arlen, Boyce & Hart, Rogers & Hart, Mann & Weill, Goffin & King, & speaking of kings, Burt Bacharach, you know, those Brill Building double acts, Manfred Mann (at least until '68), one Mancunian only, Graham Gouldman (at least til '68), Satie at 23, who had written pieces he cdn't listen to that the world couldn't stop listening to, McCoy Tyner and his 4ths, just like Ravel and his, and Ravel's orchestrations, and the lineage thing again too with the arrangers, Wally Stott and Peter Knight and Ivor Raymonde and Richard Hawley and Nelson Riddle, and you know who you are - when are you gonna orchestrate again? Meanwhile, a clip from the first show by The Apartments in Sydney, Australia, at The Vanguard - filmed on December 20th 2007. The song is Thankyou for Making Me Beg, from the 1995 album "A Life Full of Farewells".
To the wonderful person who helps with this page, and to the fantastic songwriter who wrote the songs, mr Peter Walsh ; hello, and thanks for your mail, Peter, it was great reading from you.
So here a little message from France. First of all, this important information (well, important to ME, at least) > The Evening visits... is still in my top 3 of all times. Yes, all times. And I have heard, probably, more than 20 000 records in my life (that used to be my job, basically), and have may be 5000 records at home... so : Peter, THANK YOU. Thank you, and again, thank you. You wrote some of the most important and precious melodies (and words) that have since then become the soundtrack to my life. Not that the rest of your production is of less-value (it's not !) but... this record.. i dunno... it's SPECIAL. It's deep.
Now... when are you coming back to play in France ??? People in Tours, in the Loire Valley, still remember that night of... let me think... 87 ? 88 ? .. when you played at The Forum 18. You had your big white Gretsch, you had your black sunglasses, you had your great band with a girl on piano (well, I think...), you had all these great songs to sing and you knew they were good, and you played them with passion, it was just FABULOUS.
PS : okay, that doesn't matter much after what I just wrote, but, by the way, I also write songs. And this is my new band. But who cares... Peter Walsh is God. I'm just a monkey on his planet. Goodnight everyone.
Thanks a lot Mr Walsh for your add and your very nice comment. Your music is most the wonderful and heartbreaking thing that I have ever heard. The lyrism which comes from your songs is fully breathtaking. Thank you so much for your kindness and for all your majestic records. Kindest regards, Paul
PS: Unfortunately, It is not my own painting in my page because I am a very bad painter !
