Everton came from a music background firstly introduced to it through his dad, as he had his own sound system. His older brothers played for the sound. As he came into his teenage years he started to follow the infamous SAXON SOUND and then went on to follow many other sounds e.g. Prophecy, Ceaser…etc. After many years of following sounds he built his own called Channa 1 with his brother Christopher and friend Leroy and Andrew. This led on to playing at the rare groove dances with people like lady’s choice (now known as Mystery). He then worked in his cousins shop (4 Star General, in Carnaby Street), selling the famous Goose jackets Troop, tracksuits and all hip hop gear which opened the doors to meeting famous hip hop acts and getting a feel of the industry. In 1988/89 he started going to the big acid house parties this inspired both Everton, his brother Kingsley along with Wayne to get involved in setting up ROAST!! With Paul (the original Roast).
Roast began on Sunday lunch times at Turnmills hence the name SUNDAY ROAST. It attracted crowds of 300/400 people with a line up of D.J.’s like Groove Rider, Kenny Ken, Ron , Mc Moose and Five0. Sunday Roast then moved to a bigger venue Lynford Film Studios which held about 1000 people and moved from Sunday days to Sunday nights. Roast grew which meant adding different nights (hence dropping the ‘Sunday’) and bigger venues such as: SW1 Club, London Astoria, Hippodrome, Sanctuary Milton Keynes, Club U.N., Island Ilford, Adrenalin Village, Stratford Rex and not just London venues also Leicester, Birmingham…. And the list goes on. This created many small after parties (for those of you who were there you can never relive that atmosphere!)….. and as far as ROAST is concerned the rest is history!
The ROAST CREW would like to pay respect to all the D.J’s that played a part in making history: The Rider, Kenny Ken, Ron, Young Head, Mickey Finn, Jumping Jack Frost, Nicky Black Market, Randall, SL, Brockie, Darren J, Hype, Tamsin, Andy C. Mc’s Moose, Five 0, Navigator, Stevie Hyper D (R.I.P.), Det, GQ, Skibadee, Terrorist. Garage D.J.’s: Dominic, Charlie Brown, Jason Kaye, Mickey B, Hermit, Pied Piper, Ramsey Mc’s: Emme, Blakey, Creed, D.T. and M.C. Charlie Brown (R.I.P.)…… and many more. Respect to all those who haven’t been mentioned (too many to mention!)
5 Years on Everton and his wife now run a children’s entertainment company (www.taylor-madeentertainment). This came about from hiring entertainers for their own children’s parties and realising they were a load of crap!! As Everton had come from the music side of things and his wife came from the children’s educational side they then decided “ You know what … we could do this much better ourselves!” and there it began, along with other family members. This has lead on to many corporate, charity and council run events such as Reuters, Scope and Richard house, Peoples day. The next natural step was to move into adult events e.g. weddings, birthday parties etc.
Apart from establishing their own company with staff they both held full time jobs with Everton working as a Brick Layer. This career has come to a slight halt since he was diagnosed in January 2006 with Non- Hodgkin Lymphoma (Cancer of the Lymph Glands) . This has obviously shook both Everton and his family and friends. One of the most upsetting things about being diagnosed with Cancer (apart from being told you have Cancer and dealing with it) was that last October 2005 Everton registered on Bone Marrow Donor register after watching the very moving programme about DJ SWING. Unbeknown to him the following year he was diagnosed with Cancer himself and had to be removed of the donor register.
Nevertheless he offers his services to the African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust (A.C.L.T.) as a volunteer and his company (Taylor Made Entertainment) supports the A.C.L.T.
So now Everton knows that he cannot save someone’s life but he urges everyone to become a registered donor a.s.a.p. and help save someone’s life!!!
