Hailing from the small east coast town of Branford, CT, dub/rock/reggae band LiVE NOW brings an east shore vibe to a genre and style associated primarily with the west coast. Shedding light on an industry swarming with sharks, these guys play with a passion and originality that is missing from the mainstream music of today.
Formed in 2006, LiVE NOW’s music is mature beyond their years. The distinct reggae-inspired vocal melodies of lead singer and guitarist Mike McGinley and the funk rock, Latin and reggae percussions of older brother Doug McGinley provide a refreshingly unique sound. LiVE NOW keeps it tight with Jeff Abel on rhythm guitar and keys, and Rocco Tondalo on the bass. Altogether, they are a driving force whose style, live performances and energy bring to mind such acts as 311, Steel Pulse, John Brown’s Body, and The Police.
Youthful anthem-choruses of fan favorites High As A Blue Jay and Earthquake, sexy sun-soaked guitar hooks in I Knew A Girl, solid percussion and bass work in Stowaway and Fuck Emo, and homages to roots-reggae in songs like Relight make this band one worth giving a listen.
LiVE NOW is more than just a band, it is a life philosophy. The members represent a lifestyle of relaxation and sunshine, and front an attitude that lets you know it’s okay to wear your sunglasses at night. From sunrise to sunset, “everybody just live now.”
