Edgar Ramirez was born in Caracas on March 25, 1977. His childhood was spent in multiple countries, which allowed him to learn to speak fluent English, German, Italian and French, besides their mother tongue, Spanish. He studied Social Communication at the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello in Caracas, where he began to explore their artistic side by acting in various student films. In 2000, before turning to acting full, Edgar was the executive director of a Dale entitled to Vote campaign that seeks to promote democratic values in youth and was sponsored by a Venezuelan NGO. In 2002, Edgar rose to fame in his country Cacique interpreting the character in the soap Cosita Rica, produced by the Venezuelan channel Venevisión. Production remained in the air since September 2003 until August 2004, lasting 270 chapters. During that time, they also released two films in which he obtained the role: Yotam goes flying and Punto y Raya. The latter would be the representative of Venezuela before the Academy Awards (Oscar) this year. After his film debut in Venezuela, Edgar was presented a great opportunity in Hollywood. In 2005 starred in the film American Domino, directed by Tony Scott, where he played the boyfriend of Domino Harvey (Keira Knightley). During 2006, Venezuela launched in two other films that appeared as the lead actor: Don José Ramón Novoa and Plan B Alejandro Wiedemann. For 2007, its internationalization as an actor was made as the whole world saw him in the role of Peace, a murderer chasing Matt Damon in the movie The Bourne Ultimatum, the latest delivery of the saga of Jason Bourne. In 2008 came to the cinema two films in which the actor was again news: Cyrano Fernandez, directed by Beto Arvelo Venezuela, in which Cyrano personified and brought to the role of producer, and Vantage Point, directed by Pete Travis, and in which he shared with actors like Dennis Quaid, Forest Whitaker, Eduardo Noriega and William Hurt. Since then, Edgar Ramirez embarked on two other important and ambitious projects for the Latin American audience: Che, Steven Soderbergh and the Ilich: The story of Carlos, in the film that plays the terrorist in Venezuela and working with French filmmaker Olivier Assayas. Edgar Ramirez has been a host for AXN Film Festival. He has been involved in the project from the first year in 2006 when he decided to become their driver. This year we arrived to the fourth edition and Edgar took up the challenge once again be the image of the festival, sharing this work with new and interesting commitments in Latin American cinema and Hollywood. Today continues to foster young filmmakers from the region to have their work seen by millions of households in Latin America, and for a select group of international film personalities to judge their short films through AXN Film Festival 2009.
