"The Beating of the Start" marks a big transformation for Eve's Dilemma who, with the current line-up, has morphed the band's style from a guitar-driven rock sound to that of lush instrumentation, folk-inspired melodies, and emotional, lively vocals. Described as indie-folk-rock, "The Beating of the Start" delivers much more, garnering the band comparisons to The Decemberists, R.E.M., and Counting Crows, a wide range of musical influences that give the songs a genre-morphing tone that help keep things fresh and lively. Experimenting with instrumentation, texture, and time signatures, Eve's Dilemma bring layered vocals, odd instruments, and unusual melodies to their sound, the result of a collective effort that find the five members of Eve's Dilemma building and expanding upon the basic structure of Leach's songs, ensuring that Eve's Dilemma is truly a group effort. And "The Beating of the Start" is proof of that.
