You Are My Sun, one of the songs I've added here is one of my favorite songs I've ever written. It came from a very real place and time and for me, it's a love song. When I told my mom, "Mom! guess what! I didn't write another dark song that will make you sad for me! I wrote a totally beautiful happy love song!" She listened.... and still got sad for me! She said "Oh Evie it's so desperate how could you love someone so much? Where is he? You haven't mentioned you're in love?" And of course I said "Oh no no, he's not in love with me silly, it's just the way I feel about him!" Then I thought, "Hmmmm, that is depressing..." I still love it though and you know who I love that much who DOES return it more than I could ever even comprehend? Jesus!! So I've rededicated You Are My Sun to Jesus. His is the only love that will never let us down, that is truly unconditional and that never fails. It's just a work tape... but hey, Gary Burr is singing harmonies, and that just makes it awesome. I wrote the song with him, as well as Wreckin Ball. I adore Gary and feel so lucky to have written a several songs with him.
Beautiful Thing I wrote a few years ago I think, with Justin Weaver. This really is a love song and I realize I don't have many of those so that's why I've added it.
Be Still is a song I wrote while on a retreat in Florida at my friends Paul and Deb's house. I desperately needed to get out of town and they were so kind to offer their place to me. It was a totally private, sort of secluded home on 8 acres and a lake. I spent 5 days in complete peace and at one with God. I was sitting on the end of the dock one evening as the sun was setting and I had my guitar and I started this little tune based on Psalm 46:10, Be Still and know that He is God. I kept getting stuck on one part and that's when I started getting really annoyed at this bull frog that kept shouting at me and disturbing my train of thought.... All the other sounds of nature around me were so peaceful and sweet and then.... the bullfrog.... so naturally, I gave in and let him play the main character in the song.... Anyone who's heard this inevitably nicknames it "the Bullfrog song." ( : Hope you like it..

Hey there : ) So I've added a few tunes here, one of them called The Pope's Song. I wrote this when Pope John Paul II died in 2005. My heart broke that day as I watched the world grieve and pay their respects to such a beautiful life devoted to love. The reason I'm putting this song up now is because it's featured in a film that premiers this Friday September 25th in selected cities around the country. (Green Hills, here in Nashville). It's a documentary called Lord Save Us From Your Followers. I've seen it and it's really awesome. It's gotten a whole lotta press and won some awards. Very eye opening and inspirational. It focuses on the question "Why The Gospel of Love divides America." Please go check it out to support me and the movie! ( : I've attached a few clips in honor of the sweet Pope's life and death.
Pope John Paul II died today at age 84, Vatican officials said. One of the most influential leaders of the 20th and early 21st centuries, he worked tirelessly to build a moral foundation in the modern world, while playing a crucial role in overthrowing communism and fostering peace.
Papal spokesman Joaquin Navarro-Valls announced the pope's death in a statement that was distributed to journalists via e-mail: "The Holy Father died this evening at 9:37 p.m. (2:37 p.m. ET) in his private apartment.
Cardinal Giovanni Battista announced the pontiff's death to tens of thousands of people who had gathered in St. Peter's Square in a vigil for the pope.
"Dearest brothers and sisters, at 21:37, our beloved Father John Paul II has returned to the house of his Father. Let's pray for him," Battista said.
Onlookers fell silent once the pope's death was announced. Then in an Italian traditional salute, some clapped in tribute to the pope. Only the slow tolling of one of the great bells of St. Peter's Basilica could be heard.
The crowds began gathering by the thousands on Friday when the Vatican announced the pope was in "very grave" condition.Pope John Paul II had suffered cardio-circular failure and septic shock late Thursday while being treated for a urinary infection, the Vatican said. By Friday afternoon, his breathing had become shallow and his kidneys were no longer functioning properly, it said.
His illness forced him to skip most of the Holy Week observations, for the first time in his nearly 27-year papacy. John Paul appeared at his window on Easter Sunday, March 27, to bless the faithful thronging St. Peter's Square, but he was unable to speak.
President Bush ordered that flags nationwide be lowered to half staff, and said, "The world has lost a champion of human freedom" in Pope John Paul II. He called the pope "humble, wise and fearless priest who became one of history's great moral leaders."
"A good and faithful servant of God has been called home, " Bush said. Bush was expected to travel to Rome for the pope's funeral.
Former President Bill Clinton said Pope John Paul II was a symbol of unity in a divided world.
"In speaking powerfully and eloquently for mercy and reconciliation to people divided by old hatreds and persecuted by abuse of power, the Holy Father was a beacon of light not just for Catholics, but for all people," Clinton said in a statement.
