10 Years of Evolving!
The countdown is on for The 10th Annual Evolve Music and Awareness Festival, July 17-19! Set in a spectacular location with breathtaking Atlantic coast vistas just outside Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada, Evolve Festival, staple of the East Coast summer music scene, is guaranteed to be the highlight of the summer.
Headlining Evolve Festival this year is Australian sensation Xavier Rudd
Xavier Rudd has exploded internationally becoming a fixture at music festivals worldwide for his unique one-man musical talents. His music mixes rock, folk and indigenous instruments while his lyrics contain socially conscious themes, such as environmentalism, the rights of Aboriginal peoples and world peace. In addition to playing the didgeridoo in many of his songs, Xavier simultaneously plays percussion, guitar and sings. Xavier Rudd has performed with Dave Matthews Band, Michael Franti, Ani DiFranco and Jack Johnson.
With a talent line-up of over 40 acts, Evolve strives to present a uniquely eclectic line-up, including new favourites and old, running the musical spectrum --from rock to jazz to funk, from world music, to hip hop, to electronica, and back again. From live electronic artists; The New Deal, Shout Out Out Out Out and That One Guy; to East Coast mainstays; Slowcoaster, Caledonia, Share and The Sleepless Nights; to globetrotting Djs; A.Skillz, Elite Force, Myagi and Mat the Alien; to hot emerging Canadian talent; Mishka, Valery Gore and The Ukaladies, plus international comedic sensation Jon Lajoie, Evolve continues to push artistic boundaries and audience expectations. See www.evolvefestival.com for the full line up.
Evolve Festival is a grassroots festival that has grown to become a showcase for music, a forum for environmental awareness, and a celebration of the beauty that is uniquely Maritime. It is entirely dedicated to sustainable environmental stewardship - the largest festival of its kind in Canada. Besides offering an amazing music experience, Evolve is committed to being one of Canada's greenest events. Evolve strives to set a standard for sustainable festivals -- by utilizing renewable energy sources, using recycled paper and vegetable-based inks for all printed materials, biodegradable plates and utensils for food vending, reducing waste and most significantly by providing a forum to network and learn more about social and environmental issues. In addition, the E10 Green Team, a volunteer greening initiatives collective, is facilitating efficient waste disposal and recycling systems at the Evolve festival this year to reduce the environmental impact of the festival. Come get involved!
The three-day Evolve Festival has general camping as well as a quiet/family camping area. There will be full-service facilities including running water, portable washrooms, clean drinking water, and wash stations. There is also a kids' play zone with organized activities and music for the youngsters and, as usual, a vendor's area will offer a diverse range of scrumptious food to keep people energized. The vendors' area will also feature many talented artisans selling crafts, garments, jewelry and one-of-a-kind items.

EVOLVE is also the largest "green" festival in Canada. In 2005, EVOLVE powered several stages on low-emission Bio-Diesel (vegetable oil), employed solar and wind power on-site and held demonstrations of alternative energy generation in its Awareness Village. EVOLVE proudly maintains an ambitious event recycling and composting program on-site, and favors 100% post consumer recycled chlorine-free paper for its marketing materials.
This years EVOLVE will feature over 35 workshops and activities in the popular Awareness Village, offering everything from yoga to fire spinning, as well as the Wee Wild Ones kids zone and another installment of its Independent Film Series.
EVOLVE is about more than just really great music. Its our small but genuine attempt to inspire positive change in the world. And it's working!
- Jimmy Dorey, Festival Producer
Greener than ever
Our private 225-acre venue under the sun and stars of Nova Scotia is the perfect place for our community to come together and celebrate each year. Evolve has consistently pursued an aggressive green strategy with each festival, always trying to reduce our events footprint on the land. This year, we push it even further.
All our marketing materials are printed with low-waste waterless inks on 100% post consumer tree free paper. The festival employs alternative energies such as Bio-Diesel, Wind and Solar to power the site. This year, our vendors will provide only compostable eat-ware to cut down on garbage. This means that all the paper plates and such will be 100% organic matter and will be able to go back to earth without ever going to a dump. Even Evolves port-o-potties will be stocked with tree-free toilet paper. And as always, our Sunflower Recycling Stations will make garbage separation and recycling easy.
* Were putting the finishing touches on this year's Awareness Village. The new Village will feature street names, a Town Crier, travelling minstrels, plus more yurts and teepees. Were setting up way more food vending booths, and there will be some amazing new vendors with clothing, musical instruments and other funked-out items. The Village will also feature dozens of workshops to expand your mind, including the very popular morning yoga. Weve got special guest speakers including Elizabeth May former director of the Sierra Club Canada and current candidate for the leadership of the Green Party of Canada.
*We're working all aspects of the venue, including stage setups, more signage and the expansion of our quiet camping areas for those who like a bit of peace and quiet at night.
It's happening all over again. EVOLVE returns for its biggest and best festival yet. We'll bring the music - you bring the love. Get ready to EVOLVE, people.
