Exhausted Prayer have been recording and performing their own unique blend of extreme metal in the Los Angeles area since 1999. Their first demo, the black metal opus Involutional Melancholia, was well received and brought them national attention and international radio play. After self-releasing What Completely is Not in 2002, the band performed persistently throughout Southern California and Mexico, gaining momentum in the underground scene and reinforcing their status as one of the most original extreme metal bands. They toured across the West and refined their unique harmonic intensity, incorporating a breadth of influences to bring a refreshing perspective. In 2005 they unleashed their most progressive and brutal creation, Looks Down in the Gathering Shadow: a transfiguration of blackened death/thrash that continues to send shockwaves throughout the global metal scene, garnering rave reviews internationally, and earning radio and internet airplay worldwide, from Canada to Argentina, Spain to the Philippines. In 2007, Dwell Records released both albums as a single CD with remastered audio, featuring full lyrics and new artwork.
Exhausted Prayer keep it fast and technical but are unafraid to expose their more melodic and experimental tendencies, shattering the clichés of typical black and death metal. After touring extensively across the US in 2007, they are currently recording their highly anticipated full-length and plan to conquer the masses in 2009 in support of the new album.
