Founded in the Sambreville region of Belgium in 2006, EXIL are launching their latest EP which consists of 4 intense songs. At the very least, it is plain to see the distance travelled by this group and progress made since their very first demo Original Speaking and their latest creation The Mechanism – just released through the highly reputable De Studio (Arkangel, Morda, Born From Pain, Negate...).
But it is on stage that EXIL come into their own with their music and their style. It is here that these four passionate members have been able to expel their energies since the birth of EXIL in 2006.
In a league of their own, EXIL mix their different influences to create an original sound best described as a chaotic mix of powerful rock’n’roll. Their sound is a refreshing change from that of most other groups. This is mainly due to their diligent work on the melody rather than having long and arduous riffs throughout.
“EXIL’s duty on the metal scene”, says Patrick, the guitarist, “is to try to find a new kind of music which embraces and updates the sounds that we grew up with.” And so he continues to explain the importance of being on stage for EXIL. “We give everything we have when we are on stage so that our music is not just an electroshock of audio electronic sounds, but visually engaging too. And it is this that sometimes leads to the detriment of our health and also our instruments!”
For the members, the stage is like an oasis where it is possible to forget all the banal issues of everyday life. Their only goal in concert is to free the audience, stop time and space and to envelope each spectator in their energy. This is how they get their adrenaline rush.
The Mechanism is a logical continuation in the development of EXIL. The structures of the songs are much improved and considerable amounts of work put in by every member of the group have helped them to benefit from their time in the studio.
It quickly becomes evident that these compositions, compared to the Original Speaking demo, have been directed and mixed to a higher standard “There is still a long way to go before I can tell myself that I am happy, but this cannot be done overnight.” explains Patrick. It is easy to see the improvement made by each member of the group. The beat is mellow and sharper, the guitar and bass guitar flow together harmoniously, the song itself has a malleable quality which gives the singer stylistic flexibility to express his angst. “We spent a lot of time tying to create a good sound, which is what we have, I think. This is actually a large portion of the work that goes in, but it is never really obvious to the musicians themselves. For this, we have to thank Dirk Miers and De Studio for their invaluable efforts!”
EXIL are constantly evolving. They put everything they have into their music and are constantly learning about the new aspects of this world.

Et le moins qu’on puisse dire c’est que du chemin a été parcouru entre leur première démo Original Speaking et cet opus : The Mechanism, tout frais sorti du réputé De Studio (Arkangel, Morda, Born From Pain, Negate...).
Mais c’est sur scène qu’EXIL défend le mieux sa musique et son style, c’est là que ces quatre déjantés peuvent, depuis 2006, insuffler toute leur énergie.
Se frayant un chemin qui lui est propre, EXIL mêle diverses influences pour finalement créer un style singulier, un chaos-rock’n’roll puissant. Un genre se démarquant de la plupart des groupes par un travail poussé sur la mélodie, plutôt que par des riffs lourds, massifs et passe-partout.
« Le devoir d’EXIL sur la scène metal, nous dit Patrick, le guitariste, c’est d’essayer de trouver une musique nouvelle tout en remettant à jour les origines qui nous ont bercé. » Et c’est ainsi qu’il parle de l’importance de la scène pour EXIL : « Nous nous donnons au maximum sur scène pour que notre musique ne soit pas simplement un électrochoc auditif, pour qu’il soit aussi visuel. Et cela se fait parfois au détriment de notre santé et de celle de nos instruments ! » La scène constitue pour eux un oasis, où il est possible de ne plus penser à toutes les contraintes subies dans la vie de tous les jours. Leur seule ambition, en concert, est de libérer le spectateur, de suspendre pour lui le temps et l’espace, et de l’emporter dans leur énergie. C’est là qu’ils trouvent leur adrénaline.
The Mechanism constitue une suite logique dans l’évolution d’EXIL. Les structures des chansons sont améliorées, et un énorme travail personnel a été fait par chacun des membres du groupe afin de tirer le meilleur de leur passage en studio.
On peut ressentir d’emblée que le travail était, par rapport à la démo Original Speaking, mieux dirigé, mieux canalisé. « Le chemin est encore long pour que je puisse me dire que je suis content, mais cela ne peut pas se faire du jour au lendemain. », nous dit encore Patrick. On peut constater une évolution chez chacun des membres du groupe. Ainsi la batterie est plus groove, et plus propre ; les jeux de guitare et de basse sont plus en harmonie, plus fluides ; le chant est davantage élastique, permettant ainsi d’utiliser différents styles de voix, et le rendant plus hargneux. « Nous avons passé beaucoup de temps à chercher un bon son, car cela constitue, je pense, une grosse partie du travail qui n’est pas souvent évidente pour les musiciens. En cela nous pouvons remercier l’aide précieuse de Dirk Miers du De Studio ! ».
L’évolution d’EXIL est constante ; et la musique, dans laquelle ils mettent énormément d’énergie, leur apprend tous les jours de nouvelles facettes de ce monde.
