22 year-old Jillian Walker began her music career full-time in 2007 after graduating from The University of Michigan. She lives in Ann Arbor, recording her demo album and working as an actor in a traveling company. She frequents hot spots in Ann Arbor such as the well-known jazz spot, The Firefly Club. Heavily influenced by Motown, she had the opportunity to perform in the presence of Detroit music legends such as members of the long-time in-house Motown band The Funk Brothers and Motown writer/arranger Paul Riser. “I did a Motown show this past summer and it was such a wonderful experience. I didn’t really realize at the time how valuable that experience could be for my career.” Her voice is recognized by her signature highs and unique purifying tone. “One thing I am definitely working on is not sounding pretty all the time. I have been told almost my whole life that I have a pretty voice…and lots of people can sound pretty. Pretty voices don’t make artists. I gotta say it’s difficult, but I’m enjoying getting a little dirty.” When not acting or performing, Jillian describes herself as studying: "I study the industry. I read books; I break down and analyze music and artists. I literally spend hours researching musical history—the people, the sounds, the clothes, the times of the past and right now. I’m learning and absorbing as much as I can as I go through this process.” Jillian is currently signed to a production contract with Dy’Kon Inc/Dy’Kon Music, working with the experienced industry insider—The Theorist. “Working with him is such a blessing. I get pushed, we work hard. I’m really excited to continue growing as an artist. The most important thing I can do is grow and grow.
