Holding philosophy's feet to the empirical fire:
Alina Simone--the official x-phi rocker.
And anything else by John Doris, Joshua Knobe, Shaun Nichols, Jesse Prinz, Stephen Stich or other experimental philosophers.
Experimental philosophy is a new philosophical movement that aims to return philosophy to questions about the way human beings actually think and feel. Instead of simply pondering abstract questions from the armchair, experimental philosophers go out and run systematic experiments on the intuitions of ordinary people. So far, research in experimental philosophy has helped to address questions involving free will, consciousness, morality, and many other central philosophical issues.
If you want to learn more about experimental philosophy, you can read the New York Times article , the Slate article or the Chronicle of Higher Education article.

"Out of the Armchair and into the Streets" -
Most unfortunately, in my philosophy classes I never met anyone to carry this ambition. Never would have dreamt of stumbling across this promising idea on myspace.

I am having a problem. I recently got my B.A. in Philosophy and Music with plans to work for a year and apply to grad school. I have recently gotten a job for a non-profit organization, and i help feed people on a daily basis. now i wonder if going to grad school is the best thing to do...i love philosophy, but i don't want to be sucked into acadamia, i feel that the work i am doing is philosophy in action...what should i do!?
