Inquiries about playing shows: emilyaugust at gmail
I come from a folk/gospel background, playing and writing simple, harmonic live music in and for church services, which developed into a much-neglected hobby in collaboration with other artists and friends. I have a degree in Music and English literature, but for now I work full-time doing something completely different, because life is expensive.
I have several talents which can be found elsewhere, namely writing and photography. I will be making more music, but I'm not pushing for anything other than satisfying collaboration, an occasional show with like-minded performers, and other archival pursuits. I mostly enjoy putting on shows with friends, and the more close-knit the group, the better. I love found sounds, the neglected instruments found at flea markets, and the glory of the four track coupled with hand-held recording devices.
I am nearly always interested in singing background harmonies for others, but writing my own songs is a way for me to use my poems and prose to communicate outside the confines of incredibly bad poetry readings.
Please enjoy these small songs as they are and if you like them enough, consider my handmade 3" CD-r available on Monotone Records and Tapes, or through my ETSY SHOP.
I am also in the bands Wax Museums and snowstorm, both with the collaboration of Kevin Huelbig, Jr. without whom I may never have recorded so much as a syllable.
We play @ 5:00 PM Arnold Ave. Point Pleasant Beach This is during the seafood festival which is a crazy time so parking might be a bit rough, but you'll manage, i can assure you. XO
