Founded in January 2000, the Express Gay News is South Florida’s cutting-edge gay and lesbian newspaper for the 21st century. Window Media purchased the Express in December 2003. Through the years, the paper has grown into South Florida’s leading source of accurate and compelling information on the gay and lesbian community. Every Friday, 15,000 copies of the Express are distributed to more than 300 venues throughout Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties.
Published weekly, the Express provides comprehensive local news and arts coverage. The Express also covers national news, with an emphasis on stories of special interest to the South Florida gay community. In its Local Life and Extra sections, the Express profiles local personalities and celebrities. The Express recently added a nightlife column and bar guide to enhance its local coverage.
The Forum section in the Express prints editorials, opinion columns, letters to the editor and person-on-the-street interviews, allowing a wide diversity of voices to express themselves in print.
In an effort to give back to the community, the Express sponsors many gay and HIV/AIDS charitable events each year, including AIDS Walk Miami, AIDS Walk Fort Lauderdale, Broward House’s Dinner with the Docs, Care Resource’s White Party, Pride South Florida’s Pridefest, Pride of Greater Fort Lauderdale’s Stonewall Street Festival, Compass GLCC’s Stonewall Ball, the Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, NGLTF Winter Party and the Women’s Community Fund.
