Each and every year, the Goddess makes her Descent into the Underworld.
The Dark Goddess…ancient and eternal aspect of the Divine Feminine, modern archetypal force. A figure of worship, awe, horror, fascination; a force of destruction, creation, beauty, death, sex, rebirth…
She is one who descends; She is guide for all who make the descending journey. Lady of the Great Below…
The Underworld…
…a dark place of shadow and taboo, of reckoning and utter vulnerability, of spirit and psyche and truest self; of sex and violence, yet of ultimate peace and healing.
Indeed, we can see Her journey’s influence on the seasons of life and death, of nature reborn in spring and its surrender in the Fall…back into the earth, waiting for rebirth…immortal…
In the season ruled by Hades, during the darkening of the moon and the waning of the year: Dark Queens and Madwomen, Temple Priestesses and Sacred Whores, Destroyers and Lovers, Goddesses of the Moon and the Hunt, the dance of the different forces that live within every woman: romance, innocence, desire, fear, darkness and danger …behold some of the darkly feminine themes explored by the artists of Descent…
Where do Eros, the Sacred, and the dark heart of the Underworld intersect?
