During the year of 1988, “Extreme Unction” was born from the ashes of a project called “Guilhotina". After some Line-Up changes the band decided to split-up.
The original band members were Pedro on Vocals; Duarte on Guitars, Koja on Bass and Nuno (now Vocals in Desire) on the Drums. Four years after intense hard work and devotion, the band released their first promo-track entitled "Insane Procreation", wich was very well received on the Portuguese Underground Metal Scene, and gave the band a strong positive feedback. With this promo-track, the band was featured on "Mortuary Vol.1", a Metal compilation with portuguese metal bands such as: Thormenthor, Moonspell, Silent Scream and Bowelrot.
The band’s only Demo Tape entitled “In Sadness” was released in 1993, and featured some well known names of the Metal Scene: Belathauzer (Filli Nigrantium Infernalium), Nisroth (Moonspell) and Christopher Johnsson (Therion).
The highlight of the bands live performances was in 1994, at Carlos Lopes Pavillion, in Lisbon, during the “1st Death / Black / Grind Festival” with Ancient Rites Headlinning.
In 1995 the band signed a three year record deal with Monasterium Records, wich gave the band a chance to release their debut album “In Limine Mortis”, and recorde a Video for the song “Through The Clouds”.
After some years of inactivity, Extreme Unction, returns in 2007 with a renewed line-up, continuing with Koja "Mutilator" (Bass), Sergio Marcelino (Rhythm Guitars), João Dinis (Lead & Rhythm Guitars) and two new members, Hugo Pote (Drums) and Gonçalo Martins (Vocals). Currently the band is looking for a new drummer, while working on new material to be feautured on a new release, and regain it’s place on the Portuguese Metal Scene...

No ano de 1988, nascem os Extreme Unction provenientes da banda “Guilhotina” que devido a várias mudanças de line-up deram como terminado este projecto.
A formação original da banda era constituída por Pedro (Voz), Duarte (Guitarras), Koja (Baixo) e Nuno (Vocalista dos Desire) (bateria).
Quatro anos após intenso trabalho e dedicação, foi lançada a promo-track intitulada “Insane Procreation”, tendo sido muito bem recebida pelo Underground Nacional, o que valeu algumas críticas bastante positivas. A mesma chegou a ser incluída na compilação "Mortuary Vol.1", onde também participaram bandas como Thormenthor, Moonspell, Silent Scream e Bowelrot.

O ponto alto das actuações ao vivo da banda foi em 1994, no Pavilhão Carlos Lopes, onde integraram o cartaz do "1º Festival Death / Black / Grind de Lisboa", onde actuaram como cabeças de cartaz,os Ancient Rites.
No ano de 1995, os “Extreme Unction” assinam um contrato de três anos pela Monasterium Records, pela qual lançam o álbum de estreia, "In Limine Mortis”, gravando ainda um Video-Clip para a música "Through the Clouds".
Após alguns anos de inactividade, os Extreme Unction regressam em 2007 com um line-up renovado continuando a contar com Koja “Mutilator” (Baixo), Sérgio Marcelino (Guitarra Ritmo), João Dinis (Guitarra Solo e Ritmo) e dois novos membros, Hugo Pote (Bateria) e Gonçalo Martins (Voz).
Actualmente a banda procura um novo baterista, e encontra-se em fase de composição de novo material a integrar num futuro lançamento, de forma a poder reconquistar o seu lugar no metal nacional…
