About me: I am a woman who has a unique ability to discern lies from the truth. Did you know this ability is rare?
Scientists have tested more than 15,000 people, and only identified 50 people who can discern lies from the truth with great accuracy after studying deception for several decades. I am one of the 50 people.
How do I do it? For me, it's something I do without trying. It's just the way I was born, the way my brain works, but I hone into inconsistencies in speech, behaviors and body language in seconds. I can't help but spot them.
Have you ever heard of a microexpression? Microexpressions are bursts of your true emotion that flash on your face for a split second involuntarily. Most people don't see them, but I do. They tell me how you are really feeling despite what you are telling me. Also when you genuinely smile, its a very different smile than when you give me a fake smile. These inconsistencies tell me heaps about you. I see much more, but I can't fit it all in here so you'll have to go to my blog to read more.
Fox has a new show called "Lie to Me" that came out in January. Have you seen it? Ria Torres' character (the "natural") is actually based on people like me. We're called Truth Wizards! Check out Lie to Me here. "Lie to Me" is based on the life and work of Dr. Paul Ekman who identified this ability existed in people. I think his work is incredible! Scientists, Dr. Ekman and Dr. Maureen O'Sullivan, call human lie detectors like me "wizards of deception detection", or "truth wizards". Go ahead and give the words a Google, and see.
Estimates are that one out of every thousand people has this ability.
When I first explain my ability to people, they often think I am psychic. I am not psychic.
