    WHO ARE WE?

In the spirit of The Harlem Renaissance, The Eyes Open Festival is a non-profit organization dedicated to using the arts in the black LGBT community to educate, inspire and engender wellness in all communities. The event will feature visual and performance art by black LGBT/SGL artists.
The Goals of the Eyes Open Festival are:
    - To grant an outlet for black LGBT/SGL artists
    - To bring awareness of a vibrant, yet relatively invisible cultural movement to the public
    - To create dialogue between the black LGBT/SGL community and other communities
    - To explore and celebrate diversity
    - To foster understanding
The Eyes Open Festival honors the tradition of such black LGBT/SGL luminaries as Langston Hughes, Alberta Hunter, Countee Cullen , James Richmond Barthe and the more contemporary James Baldwin, Lorraine Hansberry and Alice Walker, all of whom have left an indelible imprint on American and world culture. We hope to make the Eyes Open Festival so successful that it becomes a Cincinnati/Dayton tradition. Come out and celebrate with us. We look forward to seeing you.
