Movies
13 year old Alec Loorz shows us the way.....
Presque tout ce qui a été fait (ou plutôt ce qui a été sauvé par James Masson et ces amis) par Buster Keaton
Nearly everything that managed to be salvaged by James Masson and his friends for Buster Keaton.
"Citizen Kane" 1941,"La soif du mal" 1958,"La Dame de Shangai" 1948 ORSON WELLS.
"Lolita" 1962,"Dr Srangelove" 1964,"2001 A Space odyssey" 1968,"Orange Mechanic" 1971,"Barry Lindon" 1975 STANLEY KUBRICK.
"Brazil"1985 Terry Gilliam (The man who directed (with Terry Jones)"Monty Python and the Holy Grail" 1975) has an inimitable style and is a key figure in English humour.
"Fight Club"1999 David Fincher's masterpiece will probably become a classic in future years.
"Duel" and most films made by Steven Spielberg with a special mention for "Artificial Intelligence".
"Sleuth" 1972 JL MANKIEWICZ, on the version I saw there were just the two actors, but such fantastic actors such as
Sir Laurence Olivier and Michael Caine, that I didn't see the two odd hours go by.
"Bird" C. EASTWOOD Has a filmography so rich that it would take up all this column.
"Lady Killers" 2003 COEN Brths and most of their films.
"Good Will Hunting" GUS VAN SANT.
"Bob Roberts" 1992 TIM ROBBINS.
"One flew over the Cuckoo's nest" Milos Forman 1975 I was in England when I went to see this beauty.
"Under the Volcano" 1984 J HUSTON (Albert Finny's acting is so tremedous).
"The Go-between" Joseph Losey 1970(there is such an atmosphere in this film).
"Le Cinquuieme Element" L. BESSON, et la plupart de ces films.
"Notting Hill" by Roger Michell the director who turned down an over 7 million dollar Bond film for lack of any script
"Exotica" 1994 Atom Egoyan, the Canadian won a Genie award for Canadian film of the year.
"Natural Born Killers"1994 by Oliver Stone, script by Quentin Tarantino, music by L Cohen, what is there to add?

Television
Steptoe & Son in "devided we stand"
"Opium of the Masses", Hardly ever touch the stuff. I'm more used to using it to watch my videos.
The American TV series that our programme planners seem to try and bombard us with. And which our schoolchildren know the dialogues off by heart, even when broadcasted very late. Exasperates me, as much for their values (sex and violence), than for what they represent. IE a means of getting as much audience as possible and securing it, (especially the young spectators). With stories with no end.

Books
Neither here nor there. (Bill Bryston)
On one of his rare visits, my brother Al left me this book. I had never heard of Bill Bryston. But I haven’t read anything so funny since ages, thanks bro.
A l’occasion d’une de ces rare visites, mon frère Al ma donner ce livre. Je ne connaissais pas Bill Bryston, Mais il y avait longtemps que je n’avais pas lu quelque chose d’aussi drôle, merci frèro.
Beautiful Losers 1966 (Leonard Cohen) was my bedside book for ages, this is what the author looking back on his work, has to say with a lot of self-criticism and irony.
"Beautiful Losers was written outside, on a table set among the rocks, weeds and daisies, behind my house on Hydra, an island in the Aegean Sea. I lived there many years ago. It was a blazing hot summer. I never covered my head. What you have in your hands is more of a sunstroke than a book".
Needless to say that if what he wrote in that book was the result and fruit of a sunstroke, then I am ripe to go and kneel in the Sinai desert to unravel once again what was for me an enlightenment from love itself.
In 1977 0r 1978 Leonard Cohen was on a tour, and sang in Toulouse. I was able to get an authorization to cover the event. I was meek and extremely shy in those days, even in normal circumstances. (As this is getting too long, the follow-up will be on my blog).
l'Alchimiste (Paolo Coelho)
The Magic Toyshop (Angela Carter)
La vie devant soit (Romain Gary/Emile Ajar)
La Couronne de plumes, Le Magicien de Lublin, Le petit monde de la rue Krochmalna (Isaac Bashavis Singer)
About me:
Trillions of billions of millions of particles of which probably were all sorts of people and things before. Brrrrr hope that none of them were part of a T Rex, or some noxious gas, or someone sick like Jack the ripper. Alright, let’s just say that I wouldn’t want to know who or what they may of belonged to on their way down to me. And wherever my atoms will end up next, (after I've finished with them). Hopefully they'll com in handy to someone on their way to infinity.
As a tiddler I was put into social care in England, probably because my “Pater” didn’t have the foggiest what to do with me. Don’t ask why he kidnapped me in the first place; I would certainly have preferred to stay in France with my little sister Sylvie. Even more so had I kwown what was coming my way.....
Not bored yet? ....if you want to know more about it, you'll have to go to my BLOG.

On September 14, 2007, Wisconsin activst Amy Burns sent out a circular urging her readers to go to the Baltimore Sun to join in what is destined to be one of its hottest forums ever, a war of minds over the "sport" of hunting, with emphasis on bow-hunting. While her readers began pondering, comments from the pro-hunting side came in hard and fast. "America's most-hated Anti" Anthony Marr jumped in head first, and so did leading anti-huntresses Tierra and Mamasita. Amazingly, the battle is still raging as we speak, more than two years later in November 23, 2009! The total number of comments so far has exceeded 93,000, and growing. This is a phenomenon, and destined to be a classic, not to be missed if you care about animals at all.
Calcutta sounds like a fable in a song, but in reality, it is where John, my colleague and successor, was murdered. He was on the job for only three days when he got his throat slashed. As an undercover investigator targeting the illegal wildlife trade, especially in tiger parts, his real name was unknown, even to me, nor mine to him. We were just John and James to each other. All I know is that he was Chinese American, while his predecessor James - real name Anthony Marr - is Chinese Canadian, and how sincere he was in helping to save the Bengal tiger from being poached out of existence, while its habitat continues to dwindle due to human pressure...
Halloween aside, we do have a barbarian at the gate, a demon lurking in the ground, frozen there for eons, now being thawed and released into the living world, where it will roast life alive. If you want to really scare yourself silly, watch this 50 minute video in one go. Turn off the light, and the phone..
