The city of Compton is no stranger to Hip-Hop. The Hub City has given the world such Rap acts as N.W.A., Dj Quik, and more recently The Game. All of which managed to breathe new life into Hip-Hop with their vivid depictions of their hometown. So it's only natural that Compton's newest blood carries on the tradition. With the California rap scene in desperate need of remodeling, it's no coincidence that one of its brightest young stars goes by the name Hope (H.O.P.E.).
Born July of 1986, H.O.P.E., ne.. Marquis Wright, proves to be one of the few bright spots among the many young California talents. Picking up rhyming in elementary as a pass time, heavily influenced but MCs like Nas, 2Pac and Jay-Z, H.O.P.E. started taking his rhymes seriously in high school where he meet close friend and now partner Julien Edwards. From there H.O.P.E., then named just Quis, blossomed into a full fledged lyricist and quickly began gaining the respect of his peers. Soon after leaving high school, Quis began rapping under the moniker Hope after being called that by a friend repeatedly during battles. Now with a new name, H.O.P.E. began writing what is now just simply called the backwards song; where H.O.P.E. delivers a series of cleverly sharp bars in a backwards fashion. After receive praise for his recordings, H.O.P.E. dove in head first into his pursuit for Rap Supremacy.
With songs such as "Hope City" and "Not Playing Myself", H.O.P.E. managed to garner quite a bit of street noise with his self proclaimed Street Album, Fresh Hell. Now with his eyes fixed solely on the prize of bringing Westcoast Hip-Hop back to the for front, H.O.P.E. has put together his second project entitled Follow The Leader. With a witty, insightful and technical rhyme style, H.O.P.E. epitomizes the musical change on the Westcoast.
