Sounds Like
"Morgera is an excellent instrumentalist and most of his tunes leave a lasting impression." Ken Dryden, AllAboutJazz
"Morgera is, in the vernacular, a talent deserving of more attention. He is no Miles Davis rip-off, being as much his own musician as alto saxophonist Art Pepper was in the shadow of Charlie Parker. Need For Peace is a shining example of great, great jazz smothered in a commercial market place. Let Fabio breathe!"
C. Michael Bailey, AllAboutJazz
"Italian trumpeter Fabio Morgera became known around town as a member of the acid-funk band Groove Collective, but that represents only a fraction of what he can do. At Smalls his quartet will offer up some old-school-jazz barn burners, as well as ballads like those on Morgera’s recent Need for Peace . " Time Out , New York
"Italian trumpeter Fabio Morgera has a mastery of the hard bop vocabulary, possesses a lyrical and appealing sound and is willing to take chances during his solos."
Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
About JD Allen's "In Search Of": "Morgera is splendid on trumpet and deserves greater international recognition, which this recording will hopefully bring him. "
Steve Loewy
As Scott Yanow puts it in his book "Trumpet Kings: The Players Who Shaped the Sound of Jazz Trumpet ": "Fabio Morgera is an excellent post-bop trumpeter with a flexible style, who has been gaining more recognition lately due to his versatility"
Good taste, fresh ideas, a balance of groove and melodic sense makes
trumpeter and composer Fabio Morgera appreciated around the world.
Born in Naples, Italy, he lost his left hand in an accident at age 4,
nevertheless he learned to play guitar and electric bass in left-handed
fashion, then switched to trumpet at 15. After having been rejected by the Conservatory of Florence for his disability he went to study at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole with Tolmino Marianini and took jazz clinics with Enrico Rava, Kenny Wheeler and Terence Blanchard.
At age 17 he joined the CAM orchestra conducted by Bruno Tommaso and in 1981 he started playing with the italian

Morgera moved to NYC in 1990 where he continued
performing his music at clubs like Birdland and Visiones with bandmates David Sanchez and Leon Parker and guests like Steve Turre, Billy Hart, Mark Turner.
