About me: All things happen for a reason. To be a lifeline of hope to others affected by toxic mold can bring good from tragedy. As my song asks..Where Do We Go From Here? It's still a struggle. Our level of poisoning is very serious. But there IS hope. There are answers. Please avoid deadly mistakes we made. Hope is a reality when you can be directed to a solution. We're both very ill, but please bear with us, we care about each of you. We'll never give up for too many lives are at stake, but the progression of illness has taken its' toll, plus recent deterioration. No one, especially children, should have to suffer this way. It's sad and often even inhumane what so many victims of environmental illness endure. Both diagnosed per antibody testing, dna analyses and even pathology; iaq reports confirmed not only a dozen indoor molds but highly toxic levels of deadly trichothecene in our home. May God continue to use us to create a public awareness and reach out to help others. We take a stand while down on our knees. We are thankful God opened the door for us to meet the Governor in 2008 who signed a strong proclamation delaring a month of indoor mold awareness in Ga. with serious adverse health effects and the importance of good indoor air quality. Where do we go from here? It's hard to leave your home; possessions; your whole life behind and start over with nothing. We never imagined this could happen. We never saw this mountain rising up in front of us. Never take life for granted. We trust God to calm the troubled waters even in the midst of the storm. PLEASE heed our warning regarding toxic mold; do not let this happen to you or your family. If any of you are in a mold situation, you need direction to someone who will genuinely try to help you. How I wish we'd known who to turn to when all this beagn. We made so many mistakes and lost everything including our health in the process.. I thank God we've thus far survived. Please pray for all who are suffering. Sickness comes from within. We didn't get sick! We got poisoned! Many are being wrongly diagnosed with other illnesses and have no idea mold is the true culprit. We feel your pain with every fiber of our being. There is hope in Christ and in credible people who know how to help you...
Remember, a safe environment is the first step to recovery of toxic mold illness. As victim/advocates we want to spare you our pain and give you hope. If you're in a moldy environment or sick and need direction please call us. If you remain in a toxic environment your health can only worsen. Proper mold testing and remediation is so important. No doctor can help you if you're still in an environment that has developed mold. Some turn a deaf ear when we try to explain after being poisoned, we become hypersensitive and require a mold and chemical free environment to survive. This is attainable. Never think this cannot happen to you... no matter your age or social status..We certainly did not want to abandon our home, studio and most cherished possessions. For nearly a year we were homeless, cold and sick. Yet we had to make a conscious choice in order to save our lives. When we left the first home, we did not know it was MOLD, as we did not see the mold. The next home was MOLD free, but all the belongings we took with us were highly contaminated with mycotoxins. To stay in the home or to take our possessions with us again would have been suicide. I urge you, please consider your home, work or school environment. Don't let anyone tell you toxic mold cannot make you sick. In fact, it can make you very sick. Carcogenic, once systemic, if left untreated, it can even kill you.
We had no real education in what a sick building was. The molds, mycotoxins and deadly trichothecene in our home were never visible to us. Yet we now fight to survive a systemic illness and start life all over with only hope, sheer determination and faith in God. To lose health, home and possessions is a challenge within itself. Greed must not take priority over human suffering. It is negligent, heartless and even inhumane to allow those injured to live such a nightmare and do nothing. But this entire toxic mold issue is a much bigger picture than the story of Iris & Tommy Lee Brooks. It's a national health crisis. Those sick from mold infestation often have nowhere to turn. We are devoting the rest of our lives to addressing this serious health issue. We are alive only by God's grace. Along with a couple of angels sent our way, it was God who delivered us through many bizarre and even unimaginable situations. We have thanked the good Lord for a roof over our head, a small apartment, but our safe haven, mold and chemical free... Victims of mcs or environmental illness makes it very hard to find a home that won't cause serious and adverse health effects. My name is Iris. My husband, Tommy Lee, and I are lifelong musicians-songwriters. We're diagnosed with mycotoxicosis (mold poisoning). It's a continuing and bizarre journey we never could have imagined. We miraculously have survived thus far and were married on Feb.19th, 2007. Mold related illness is an incredibly uphill battle. Our photos demonstrate the horrible reality of how serious this can be.
