Toronto modern rockers Fairchild are definitely ready for prime time. Their recent debut single, “Dare To Believe,” made serious believers out of Canadian radio, getting added on MaxTrax Rock and Galaxie Rock out of the box, then charting on Rock Radio, Top 40 and Hot AC formats. The track fared superbly in showdown competitions, reigning supreme for four nights on K945 Moncton and for five on Z103.5's “Head2Head. (the latter retired DTB as an exceptional "Hall Of Fame"'er!)
Fairchild's ability to merge melody and muscle is now fully showcased on their irresistible new single, “I'll Take You.” A testosterone-charged track full of bravado, it boasts great sonic dynamics, gradually increasing in intensity, building to a climax of searing guitar and full-blooded vocals. This is aural foreplay of the highest order.
The band's primary songwriter, guitarist/vocalist Jeff Smith, recalls the origins of the song. “Hanging out in my basement one day, I came up with these chords, and it progressed quickly from there. I guess I was feeling kind of randy that day, so it does have a lot of sexual undertones,” he notes, with a chuckle. “We decided to make the music a little more seductive and laidback, with a sensual sound.”
Mission fulfilled, for “I'll Take You” is seducing listeners whenever it gets heard. It's a crowd-pleaser at Fairchild gigs, while Chad Kroeger of Nickelback (a key influence on the band) was reportedly observed enjoying the song at a recent showcase.
The tight musicianship featured on this song and throughout Fairchild's first album, Dare To Believe, should come as no surprise. You see, Fairchild is literally a band of brothers, comprising four siblings (Jeff, Phill, David and Donny Smith) in their 20s. They've played hundreds of gigs together, and now, with “I'll Take You,” they're poised to take another major leap forward.
