Influences
We lurve The Macc Lads, Dead Kennedys, Misfits, Sex Pistols (all punk in general), George Forby, The Streets, The Bloodhound Gang and good ol fashioned pop music. We also seem to have an unhealthy obsession with minor celebrities and alcohol... maybe this is just a fair reflection of the society in with we were spawned.
Sounds Like
a lot like the Macc Lads, Sham 69 and most other 3 chord happy punk bands but with a little bit of The Cramps craziness thrown in for good measure... if you dont know what mean listen to the sample tracks from our album.
Hailing from the luxurious palm trees and poo filled phone boxes of Hull, Fake Background mix beer, sex, chips and zombies into their brand of 'Drunk Rock'
This pair of philostines met in a strip club where they instantly struck a chord with each other whilst letching over the topless bar staff. Over several nights on the piss and several hangovers later, the duo moved into a small 2nd floor bedsit together where they would eventually lock themselves off from the outside world to create their own brand of music.
Too young to have know Old School Punk, but too old to be suckered into New School Punk, the twosome debated musical ethics and social politics, digging deep into their own social subconscious and drawing upon the subtle undertones of their upbringing and emerged with a brand of Punk that has been described as 'what George Forby would have sounded like if he were a smackhead'.
After emerging from their skinky den, lil kris and big paul found it difficult to be accepted anywhere either as a band or as individuals and so it was quickly decided that they should disguise themselves to protect their identities, thus creating a seperate persona used only for official Fake Background business (the annonymity of which also is suggestive of a detatchment from the content of their songs embuing it with more reflective qualities). Later that year the two would invent the drink know as Coffee and also find themselves settled in employment. Guitarist Big Paul works as a male escort for the council while vocalist Lil Kris can be found at Bogsworth High painting nudie pictures of schoolgirls.
After a long long sting of shitty gigs and failed attempts, Fake Background got a break at Brickies playing in front of a right bunch of pissheads whom we are proud to have as a hardcore following who supported us after our big break supporting The Vibrators last April.
