The band was founded when Julayuz Rafanan invited his classmates, Joan de Belen, Mark Jaco and Ramon Pinlac to form a band. Julayuz was then their bassist, Joan was the main vocalist, Mark was their song writer and back up vocalist and Ramon, their lead Guitarist. Joan, invited her sister's boyfriend,Aaron Lopez to be their drummer. Ramon also invited his friend, Christian Sotto to be the band's rhythm guitarist. They were all studying at Far Eastern University taking up Political Science except for Christian who was taking up Management and Aaron who was taking up Psychology. They named themselves, Casket of Envy. Their fist gig was at Mery's Place along Quezon Avenue under the production of their friend, Tong Tong. They covered songs, yes, from Kamikazee's "Narda" and Imago's "Akap". They also played their first composition Battlecry" which was written by Mark Jaco. After a few gigs, the band decided to record their first demo at Billy Reyes' (of Kikomachine) recording studio MMR studios. After a few gigs and after some up's and downs, the band was cold and there were no activity for months. Julayuz and Joan then decided to form another band with a taste of the music of their former band. They also invited Aaron to play the drums and another friend, Shuli, to be their band's bassist. Joan suggested to change their band name from Casket of Envy to Falling at Zero Degrees. A few gigs came when Aaron has to give up his drumming because he has to focus on his studies. The remaining three decided to audition a drummer. Blind Item's drummer, aLeo, based in Laguna, became Aaron's replacement. But the band were having difficulty with aLeo because of his location. Julayuz, Joan and Shuli then decided to invite another drummer. Julayuz then made a post or thread at Philmusic looking for a drummer. A forumer from Bulacan named Chris auditioned and automatically became the band's drummer. Few gigs came when they finally decided to record a 6 track E.P when a conflict was made between Chris and Julayuz. Chris voluntarily left the band and the band again has to look for a replacement drummer. Julayuz again made a thread at Philmusic.com, an online forum for musicians. Jimmy, a forumer contacted Julayuz then the band immediately auditioned him. But due to some reasons, Jimmy left the band and FAZD again has to look for another drummer. For the nth time, Julayuz made a thread again at Philmusic. This time they were lucky to audition a drummer (Meng) from Fairview who was very willing to travel to Manila or anywhere if needed. The band then settled with Meng as their band drummer. Shuli also invited his cousin, ,Lear Sinaguinan, to join the band as their rhythm guitarist. Many gigs came, many recording sessions were made and finally, they released their independent EP last May 18, 2009 at Dayo Bar.
The music of the band is a reflection of each member's love and life experiences such as depressions, hysteria, sadness, guilt, angst, discontentment and unhappiness. Majority of the songs in their self-titled debut E.P are melancholic, melodrama, tragic, sad and emotional songs. Call it a sub-genre of melancholic ballad fused with pop, rock and alternative.
