"Local up-and-comers The Reverie inhabit a place a little to the left of the crowded mainstream of Columbia’s music scene. Self-described as drawing influences from Jeff Buckley and Muse, the band’s sound also has a lilting vocal presence — thanks to vocalist Marshall Brown — that wouldn’t be out of place on a Radiohead album. The trio’s songs shimmer and jangle in all the right places, adding a flash of light to the sometimes down-tempo minor-chord arrangements. It’s definitely more swagger than shoegaze." J. Cataldo
"The Reverie is a rock band, pure and simple, and the Columbia quartet plays its left-of-center rock — strengthened by dramatic, Jeff Buckley-esque vocals — with unsurprising aplomb." - Free Times
"A bit more present and involved than perhaps its name would suggest, Marshall Brown’s quartet does have the whole sparkle-and-fade thing down to a pseudoscience. And with several high-profile gigs here in town recently, The Reverie is poised to offer its best shiver and shake yet. Calm and collected in a Jeff Buckley haze — with Brian Wilson and Muse’s Matthew Bellamy safe at the eye — Brown’s voice is a thing of beauty for sure. And when things start to get a little shoegaze, it’s Brown who reigns it all back in. Come out and see what Brown will do for you." L. Young - Free Times
The Reverie is a vocal-driven rock quartet from Columbia, South Carolina, and have been gigging around town, primarily at The New Brookland Tavern and The Art Bar, since 2004.
Playing a monthly show for the greater portion of two years has given them experience in live situations as well as the opportunity to grow as a band.
Throughout this period, the band has developed a wide variety of influences, with a list that includes The Beatles, Brian Wilson, Jeff Buckley, Muse, Silverchair, and Nirvana, giving them a more than unique sound.
They take pride in their original material and it shows when you see them live.
The last two years have been great, and they are now eager to get their music to a wider variety of audiences.
The Reverie's new three-song demo, recorded at The Jam Room Studio in Columbia, surely will prove to serve them in this task.
Like the laid-back feel, fascinating voice. Hope to catch you in a gig sometime. Thanks for the add and for supporting another local artist. I do appreciate it. Don’t miss the free download (assuming the player is cooperating – I’ve noticed recently the “free” button for the song “Fingertips” has disappeared – if you have any trouble getting it, let me know), then tell a friend and share the love. Thanks again - Trevor
