Fall Project began as just that, a project, an idea first thought of in autumn 1998. Two young musicians and former schoolfriends decided to collaborate on music ideas by post. Sending and sharing ideas between south-west England and north-east Scotland, the duo soon generated a large body of material, recorded between March 1999 and January 2000.
Charming and scrappy, this collection of finished and unfinished songs was shaped into something cohesive by the two very different musicians. Initially providing soundtracks for some low budget films, the pair of multi-instrumentalists soon sculpted enough tracks from the sessions to create an ambitious, experimental lo-fi album. Guest spots from the likes of John Parish also lent weight to this art-rock project. Both lyrical and instrumental, the eclectic collection of home-recorded songs, studio experiments, folk drones, field recordings, inventive loops, samples and soundscapes was sequenced together to create a powerful 'film like' musical piece, brimming with British pop character.
This new music was pressed onto double CD by Sink and Stove Records and unleashed at the label's launch party in March 2000, where 100 copies of the album were given away. On the strength of the album Sink & Stove secured a distribution deal and further interest in the label, which resulted in the follow-up release - 'The Hospital Radio Request List Vol 1' compilation album, to which the Fall Project contributed a new song.
Also available is a Remix EP featuring four songs reimagined by early Sink and Stove artists. Since 2000 nothing has been heard of from the Fall Project duo, but Sink and Stove Records progressed rapidly and developed an enviable roster of acts and releases, and continues to champion innovative music today.
