Story (English version below)
Fanfara Kalashnikov stammt aus der Region Moldau im Nordosten Rumäniens, einem Eldorado der Blasmusik. Ihre Leidenschaft für schnelle Grooves sogen die Musiker mit der Muttermilch auf. Im Kindesalter unternahmen sie ihre ersten musikalischen Gehversuche. Ihre Schule waren Dorf- und Familienfeste: Hochzeiten, Geburtstage und Namenstage. Die Fusion von Gypsy- und Jazzmusikern ließ eine sehr eigene Mischung entstehen: Speed Brass im Balkan-Orient-Stil, mit starken Einflüssen aus Jazz und Funk.
Ihre Musik spiegelt die Nomadenkultur der Roma wider: Ob Polka, Klezmer, Bossa, Walzer, Flamenco oder Mambo - auf verblüffend eingängige Weise adaptiert Kalashnikov die verschiedensten Genres und legt dazu technisch ausgefeilte Improvisationen aufs Parkett. In schweißtreibenden Tempi von weit über 200 Beats pro Minute bläst das energiegeladene Kollektiv seine Zuhörer auf Tuba, Hörnern und Trompeten in Ekstase.
Fanfara Kalashnikov goes Pop!
Seit Frühjahr 2007 ist diese Ansammlung extrem spielfreudiger Ausnahmemusiker pausenlos auf Konzerten und Festivals in Europa unterwegs. Sie performten im Vorprogramm von Seeed, arbeiteten mit Beats Antique, Beatpunk-Combo Panda, dem Soundkünstler Arto Lindsay und der New Yorker Ska-Legende Vic Ruggiero (The Slackers), jammten mit Szenegrössen wie Mono & Nikitaman oder Rupa & The April Fishes und bliesen Peter Fox und Balkan-R’n’B-Queen Miss Platnum den Hochzeitsmarsch.
Zuletzt spielte das jüngste aller Balkan Brass Orchester eine pompöse Coverversion der 2Raumwohnung-Single "Wir werden sehen" ein. Wer würde da nicht auf den Tischen tanzen?

Story
Fanfara Kalashnikov, originally from the region of Moldau in North East Romania, is a famous extravaganza of brass music. Since they were children the musicians have been playing at family and village celebrations, including weddings, birthdays and naming ceremonies. They learned from the cradle to play an extraordinary mixture of speed brass in the Balkan-Oriental style, with strong jazz and funk influences.
Kalashnikov plays klezmer, bossa, polka, waltz, flamenco and even mambo in the Balkan style. Their music is an extremely modern interpretation of centuries-old music traditions; however as most of the band members are under 30 years old, their sound reflects not only the Romani nomad culture, but also a variety of fresh and quirky influences.
Since early 2007, this collection of enthusiastic, exceptional musicians has been constantly delighting audiences in concerts, festivals and private events outside of Romania, blowing upon horns, trumpets and a tuba and delighting audiences at sweat-inducing tempos of well over 200 beats per minute.

The ensemble appeared as a horde of brass playing vampires in the video “Frauen und Männer" by Berlin punk combo Panda, they jammed with Mono & Nikitaman and Rupa & The April Fishes, worked with Beats Antique, sound artist Arto Lindsay and New York ska legend Vic Ruggiero (The Slackers), blew the wedding march for Balkan R’n’B queen Miss Platnum, and performed in the supporting programme for Germany’s number one dancehall act, Seeed.
One of the most energetic, surprising and exciting contemporary music projects from Eastern Europe is currently developing some of the hottest, freshest, and wildest brass sounds ever heard. Who wouldn’t dance on the tables to these rhythms?

Since April 2007, Fanfara Kalashnikov has been travelling over thirty thousand miles and performing about one hundred fifty shows in Germany, Holland, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria and Poland, at venues and festivals such as:
Die Januarausgabe 2010 hat eine der formidabelsten Kapellen Berlins zu Gast: das Kapaikos Mandolinenorchester. Demente Punkpolka, 'Teerwalzer' [wie ihr gleichnamiges Album], Balkangalopp und alles, was dein Herz aufgehen läßt, deinen Appetit nach hochprozentigem weckt und dich unwiderstehlich auf die Tanzfläche zieht. Die sieben kaputten Kapaiken durften schon Cobra Killer auf einem ganzen Album begleiten und waren 2004 das letzte Mal im Lovelite. Wir freuen uns auf ein wildes Wiedersehen!
