Farid Azar was born in 1980 in Herat / Afghanistan. He went to school up to 12 class and after that he started to study at the Polytechnic Univercity of Kabul. Unfortunately he could not end his study and becouse of the bad situation in Afghanistan at those days he traveled to europe / Germany.
Farid was since his childhood interssted in vocal music and of course playing the Tabla. At those times he played also in different private programes in the field of family and friends.
In Germany ( 1995 ) Farid Azar started to learn Tabla profitionaly from some afghani tabla teachers. After that he took lessons from many indian Tabla teachers too. He learned from every teacher a little bit Tabla lessons.
In 2002 he started to learn Tabla from the great master of Tabla Pandit Abhijit Banerjee from Calcutta / India .
Panditji has changed Farids whole unorganised Tabla life . He showed him how to play Tabla phrases easyer , fast , clean and with the right NIKHAS .
From the other side in the field of LAYKARI he teaches Farid the JATIES and showed him how to improvise with these kind of rhythmic paterns.
To do Riyaz ( Tabla - Practice ) rightly , to play which BOL how long , how to play some difficult Bols in the fast speed and also some RAZ ( seecrets ) of playing the Tabla Bols were the other aspects of Abhijit Da....s teaching.
Farid Azar is learnig now a day also Tabla from his Guruji Pt. Abhijit Banerjee and beside that he is performing also in the public programmes. He accompanyed lots of Afghani , Indian and europian musicians ( Instrumentalists and Vocalists ) on the Tabla.
Farid Azar has also his own students in Germany and he is teaching them Tabla.
Farid is inspired beside his Guruji Pt. Abhijit Banerjee by all the great masters of the last generation like Ust. Thirakwa Khan Sahib , Ustad Alla Rakha Khan , Ust. Nizamuddin Khan and also from the new gereration masters like Ustad Zakir Hussain , Ustad Sabir Khan , Pt. Kishan Maharaj , Pt. Swapan Choudary , Pt. Kumar Bose , Pt. Shankar Ghosh , Pt. Anindo Chatterjee and many other Tabla Players.
