For 30 years, Jan Haagensen has been harassed and her farm in PA invaded with impunity by hunters, and her NO HUNTING signs and fences repeatedly torn down. 10 years ago, she had had enough, and approached the trespassing hunters to ask them to leave, and asked a hunter engaged in illegal hunting to cease and desist. When a hunter threatened to shoot her and her mother, she called police, which sided chummily with the hunters, and later charged her with 5 counts of "hunter harassment". The "kangaroo court" convicted her on all 5 counts. Being an attorney, she appealed to the appellate court and won, and is now challenging the PA Hunter Harassment Statute in federal court as being unconstitutional for inhibiting free speech and violating property rights. If she wins, doors will be open for challenging the equally unconstitutional Hunter Harassment laws of other states.

URGENT PLEASE CALL for SHELTER PETS!

PLEASE CALL EVERY DAY UNTIL THIS IS VOTED ON TUESDAY!!!
THE OPPOSITION (BREEDERS, PUPPY MILLS) HAVE BEEN CALLING EVERY DAY SEVERAL TIMES A DAY! WE NEED YOUR HELP TO STOP THE KILLING!!!!!!!!

SB 250 will be voted on in the Assembly Committee on Business and Professions THIS TUESDAY, JUNE 30th

    SB 250 at a glance
Each year, over $250 million dollars is spent housing and euthanizing homeless dogs and cats in California. Approximately 1 million dogs and cats enter California’s shelters each year, and over half of them are euthanized (killed) simply because there are not enough homes.
Right now in California our shelters are seeing an explosion of animals coming into the shelters due to the bad economy, meanwhile the shelters are faced with budget cuts and laying 20 off staff.
This enormous number of homeless pets is a moral and ethical crisis, and an expensive drain on our state's finances. SB 250 provides a reasonable, fiscally responsible step towards reducing pet overpopulation in California in two ways: by fostering responsible pet ownership through increased animal licensing, and by offering incentives for owners to spay and neuter their pets.
Please note that SB 250 does not affect feral cat caregivers. The bill applies only to pets that live on your property.
Before this economic downturn we needed SB 250, but now we cannot afford another year without it. Just this past week our state passed an expensive milestone... since January 1, 2009, California has now spent over $100,000,000 tax dollars just to house and euthanize the unwanted pets in our state. Please help prevent the needless suffering of dogs and cats in our shelters, support the overburdened shelter staff that cares for them and the rescue organizations who try to save them.

I had a phone meeting this morning with Jennifer Johnson @ Sea Shepherd headquarters and it went very well! She was most impressed with my proposal and we discussed a few things.

It turns out that Sea Shepherd has been wanting for a while to get a SSCS chapter organized in California and this is our ticket for finally doing so.

She is going to be speaking to her supervisor today who is based here in California and share with her my ideas for SSCS California and a benefit show.

This is very exciting! Jennifer is forwarding my contact info to her supervisor now and will be calling me this afternoon. How exciting!

To everyone who has offered their help no matter where you live please keep my email address so I can put you on my mailing list for updates and planning once I get official word from Sea Shepherd.

Hear Angi and judge for yourself.
