Gentle Thanksgiving, is an opportunity to encourage friends, family and neighbors to adopt compassionate alternatives to unnecessarily cruel turkey dinners. We accomplish this by demonstrating the great taste and superior nutrition of gourmet vegan recipes and a variety of festive plant-based foods. The best thing we can do for turkeys and other farmed animals is to stop eating them and their byproducts (meat, eggs and dairy), and to encourage other people to do the same. Our Get Active page is full of ideas, and you can register your activities, even if you are still in the planning stages.

About FARM


Farm Animal Rights Movement (FARM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, public-interest organization promoting vegan, plant-based diets to save animals, protect the environment, and improve health. We operate from the nation's capital and work through our Compassionate Activist Network (CAN) with volunteers in all 50 states and two dozen other countries.

Each year in the United States, ten billion chickens, turkeys, cows, pigs, sheep, and other innocent, sentient animals are forced to live in filthy windowless sheds, wire cages, gestation crates, veal crates, and other confinement systems known as “factory farms,” and are deprived, mutilated, drugged, and manhandled, all in the name of profit. They are then hauled to the slaughterhouse and slaughtered under atrocious conditions. Ten percent never even make it to the slaughterhouse, dying from stress-induced diseases or injuries.


Programs

Since our beginning in 1976 and official formation in 1981, FARM has launched a variety of grassroots campaigns in pursuit of our mission: World Farm Animals Day (1983), Great American Meatout (1985), Gentle Thanksgiving, CHOICE School Lunch (1991), Letters from FARM (1994), Sabina Fund (1997), Veggies for Ecology (Earth Day), and Well-Fed World (Global Hunger Solutions). Our newest campaigns are the Global Warming Campaign and Equal Justice Alliance...

FARM also conducts the movement-wide Animal Rights National Conference.

    Update: Stray black dog who's friend was killed by hit & run truck.

    Pictures I took today 10/22 Thurs. of the stray black dog whose best friend, another black male dog was purposely run over & killed by someone in a white truck couple months ago in front of me & this dog who lost the only living thing he ever let near him.

    He's eating a bowl of dry food, always takes food out the bowl & puts it on the ground before eating. I took the pics through my front window screen, he's a lot further than it looks. We built a cover over the bowl so the food doesn't spoil in rain, still won't come in garage to eat.

    Little guy's gone underground, we think he stays under a small bridge that goes over a running stream partly on our property. He still hangs out in the cow pasteur across the road. My husband says there's small hollow caves, nooks & crannies where he can protect himself from bad weather under bridge.

    He's not skinny anymore & is eating food we put out for daily. We still try to coax him but he runs, he's become wild.

    My friends here followed this story since the other dog was alive & I was trying to rescue both. You showed a lot of kin

    Beautiful People,

    Having traveled around the world...
    both in first and third world countries...
    the only solution I see for the survival of our planet...
    is World Public Awareness and Change... that is why I sing... MUSIC FOR CHANGE!!!

    We cut off our nose to spite our face... destroying our own children's world even before they are even born!!!
    Technology (4 PROFIT) has made 'A FEW' of our lives easy... but it is costing THE PEOPLE.
    In less than 100 years... mass deforestation, polluted ocean and lands, and loss of essential species.
    We have disrupted Mother Natures Balance.... and very shortly SHE will fight back with Biological weapons MANKIND will have no defense against... the organism Man will be wiped from her skin in a blink of Time... if we do not CHANGE!!!

    We must take heed of the laws of the Simple People (also essential species) of the Planet who lived in symbiosis with Mother Earth.

    Mark Twain was facinated with ancient Hawaii which was well populated, isolated and IN BALANCE.

    I very much regret that I must own a car and need a plastic computer to try to make a difference.
    ... people seem to need to see one with items of prestige... just to listen... for an educated mind in rags is not a voice to listen too.

    It is time to change from the fictitious paper monetary system... to a spiritual one... Mother Earth will demand it so... UA MAU KE EA O KA AINA I KA PONO...

    How a single bullet killed 25 lions



    When I was in Africa a couple of decades ago, I camped for a stretch in the territory of a lion pride comprising 3 males, 10 females and 22 cubs.



    The 3 pride-males, named Agamemnon, Achilles and Hector (AAH), were about 6 years of age and very much in their prime. Their 22 cubs were thriving under their protection - protection against predators,



    and the coalition of four 4-year-old prideless bachelors, who had been loitering in the neighborhood.



    Due to the superior fighting prowess of AAH, they had been kicking the butts of the Gang of Four (GOF), so far. If the GOF drove out or killed AAH, they would kill all their cubs so that the lionesses would have cubs bearing their genes. AAH would be able to repel GOF for another couple of years, which was a fairly stable long term scenario in lion terms. What was unforeseen was that a trophy hunter killed Achilles.



    Now with only Agamemnon and Hector holding the fort, they were no match for the GOF. Valiantly, AH tried to defend their offspring, but it was a matter of fighting to the last cub before they both were killed. The 10 lionesses became the spoils of war. And so, a new leonine dynasty was born. But through it all, 25 lives were lost, all due to one single bullet fired by one egomaniacal trophy hunter. Shame on Safari Club International! And shame on you Mr. President, for support hunting.

    If you prefer the 3rd alternative, please join the Anti-Hunting-Alliance (AHA) currently being forged by Heal Our Planet Earth (HOPE - www.HOPE-CARE.org), which initially will seek to accomplish the following:

    1. Support local campaigns against the culling and bow-hunting of deer in urban, suburban and park environments.

    2. Integrate the local deer-battles into a national Deer War.

    3. Launch massive internet and media campaigns on local and national levels.

    4. Launch federal-level class-action legal challenges against the state-level Hunter Harassment laws for violating the freedom of speech and property rights of non-hunters and anti-hunters as guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution (listen to the Jan Haagensen interview by Anthony Marr on Animal Voices in www.myspace.com/AnthonyMarr).
