At a Farrago SLAM! ANY style of poetry is welcome, read or performed, ANY number of poems can be presented in the slot and EVERY poet wins a PRIZE! Our events are always open for poets to turn up and sign up on the night and if there is not a slam there is always an open mic.
Our feature performers come from every poetry tradition, community and corner of the globe, from concrete to hip hop, jazz to traditional on the page and beyond. Our nights have also featured many different languages, not just English and our Spanish language and International events are an important part of our programme.
We also regularly feature music, prose, drama and performance art to explore the possibility of the spoken word!
Farrago Poetry are the UK's SLAM! Poetry Pioneers, organising the first poetry slam in the UK in February 1994, The London SLAM! Championships, easily Europe's longest running and setting up the UK SLAM! Championships in the same year. We also co organised the first poetry slam International events and tours in 1995 & 1996 between London, San Francisco and Asheville, here and in the US. Farrago also runs other events including regular Spanish Language nights and the annual Farrago Festival of Spoken Word.
Farrago has staged literally hundreds of events and featured and given performance and reading opportunities to thousands of poets over the 16 years we have been staging shows. We have run events for festivals including West End Live and Bradford Alternative Festival and in venues from the ICA to Hastings Castle. Our regular monthly events take place at the RADA Foyer Bar, the SLAM! is open to ANY poet, any style or subject, read or perform and every poet wins a prize! The nights also feature top poets, London, UK & International, representing a huge diversity of styles, communities & voices.
