Fat Sam originated in 2006 in Newport News, Va. The band has undergone a number of lineup changes in order to achieve and hone the sound the band creates and performs today. Fat Sam prides itself on its versatility, the band’s writing style ranging from hard-hitting metal and pop rock to rap and soul.
Stacy Heydon and gold-record producer Skip Derupa (Gwen Stefani) together produced Fat Sam’s self-titled debut (released in June 2007), along with Blake Wallace of Indigo Recordings. Heydon is a Billboard No. 1 producer and a former guitarist for both David Bowie and Iggy Pop; Derupa is known for heading Windmark’s East Coast studio (Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears).
Several singles from Fat Sam’s debut CD have enjoyed airplay on 70 stations nationwide, including XM and Sirious satellite radio. Executive producer Galen Walker (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, 2007) chose Fat Sam’s edited version of “Case Full of 40s” to promote the latest animated Highlander film in its trailer.
Fat Sam is currently in the process of recording its second album with a new mindset and writing style; pre-production demo tracks can be heard at www.myspace.com/fatsamrocks.
