When it comes to writing about a DJ’s career, like it is customary in presentations like this, it is usual to compose a linear and very cohesive narrative. Where one thing leads to another and, at the end, everything makes perfect sense, fitting perfectly and taking to the culminating point, which is usually the current one. But such congruent artificialities are hard to be applied to the cases like Ney Faustini’s, whose trajectory spreads itself throughout the most varied forms of electronic music and counts numerous participations in crucial moments of its history, nationally or globally.

This paulistano (São Paulo native) started his path into the world of music through a overwhelming passion for Drum & Bass. His dedication was total since 1999, takin part in the inception of the very first website exclusivelydedicated to the genre in the country: www.drumbass.com.br. But it was mainly handling the turntables that Ney began to stand out among a crescent harvest of new talents that blossomed to the sound of Marky at the decks of Lov.e Club’s Vibe nights, witn whom he’d soon be sharing the same legendary booth. And it was during this golden age of Brasilian Drum & Bass that Ney built up his reputation as a skilled DJ, owner of an unique technique and careful in his selection, what garnered him some residencies and invitations to nearly every event that has become a reference to the genre, such as Parada da AME, Subgrave (D-Edge), 30Hz (Jive), The Bass (Susi In Transe), FFWD, Revolt (Cocoliche - Buenos Aires), as well as guest appearances at legandary clubs that were cornersotones in the foundation of our scene, among them Overnight and Sarajevo in São Paulo and Casa da Matriz in Rio, sharing the spotlight with some of the most renowned DJs and producers of the international circuit.

However, the passion for music itself is always expressed in the most varied and intense ways in untamed souls, those who do not tolerate restrictions or even attach themselves to labels, trends or styles. This is also Ney Faustini’s case, which is proved at the moment when we listen carefully to each one of his House sets – yet another passion of this devout stylistic pantheist – where he shows off his best qualities as a DJ. Gliding with elegance across the whole spectrum, going from the soulful euphoria to some heavier grooves through sophisticated repertoires of irresistible dancing appeal. Abilities that could be witnessed by the public from places of undeniably high demands in musical quality, parties that have been a solid reference in the restricted calendar of House Music in São Paulo, bastions of the genre like In The House at Pacha and Friends On The Decks at Clash Club.

Therefore, to say that Ney is an eclectic DJ would be simplifying something that is an essential part of his own artistic identity. Hiding the very best thing he has to offer and makes him stand out from the rest. And exactly in this so diversified aspect of his approach resides the singular talent that makes him what he is: a music creator, above all, and not merely a trend seeker. Because of this we don’t have much choice but to check out any of his sets, enjoy it and, inevitably, dance our socks off.

Quando se fala em carreira de um DJ, como é praxe em apresentações como esta, é normal compor uma narrativa linear e bem coesa. Na qual uma coisa leva à outra e, no final, tudo faz o maior sentido, encaixando-se perfeitamente e levando ao ponto culminante, que usualmente é o atual. Mas essas artificialidades tão congruentes são difícieis de serem aplicadas a casos como o de Ney Faustini, cuja trajetória se espraia pelos mais variados âmbitos da música eletrônica e conta inúmeras participações em momentos cruciais de sua história, nacional ou global.

Este paulistano iniciou seu percurso no mundo da música através de uma paixão arrebatadora pelo Drum & Bass. Sua dedicação foi integral desde 1999, participando da criação do primeiro site exclusivamente devotado ao gênero no país, o www.drumbass.com.br. Mas foi principalmente manejando os decks que Ney começou a se sobressair entre uma crescente safra de novos talentos que grassaram ao som de Marky nas noites da Vibe no Lov.e Club, com quem ele estaria, em breve, dividindo a mesma lendária cabine. E foi durante esta fase dourada do Drum & Bass que Ney construiu uma reputação como DJ habilidoso em sua técnica e cuidadoso em sua seleção. O que lhe rendeu residências e convites em quase todos eventos que se tornaram referência para o gênero, entre eles a Parada da AME, Subgrave (D-Edge), 30Hz (Jive), The Bass (Susi In Transe), FFWD, Revolt (Cocoliche - Buenos Aires), assim como aparições em clubs fundamentais para a história da cena como Overnight, Sarajevo e Casa da Matriz (RJ), dividindo a atenção do público com alguns dos mais reputados DJs e produtores do circuito internacional.

Contudo, a paixão pela música sempre se expressa das formas mais variadas e intensas em almas indômitas, que não toleram restrições nem tampouco se prendem a rótulos, modas ou estilos. E este também é o caso de Ney Faustini, comprovado no momento em que ouvimos com atenção cada um de seus sets de House, outra paixão deste devoto panteísta estilístico, em que Ney mostra suas melhores qualidades como DJ. Deslizando com elegância por todas as suas vertentes, indo da euforia souful aos grooves mais pesados através de repertórios sofisticados e de irresistível apelo dançante. Qualidades que já puderam ser conferidas pelos públicos de lugares cujo nível de exigência musical são inegávelmente altos, festas que são referência no restrito calendário da House Music em São Paulo, da lendária In The House do Pacha à divertida Friends On The Decks do Clash.

Dizer que Ney é um DJ eclético, portanto, seria simplificar algo que é constitutivo de sua identidade como artista, escondendo aquilo que ele tem de melhor a oferecer e que justamente o destaca do resto. E, precisamente neste aspecto tão diversificado de sua abordagem, reside o talento singular que faz dele o que é: um criador de música, acima de tudo, e não somente um seguidor de tendências.
