"deep & delightful" (DJ Magazine)
Sarah launched the Favouritizm club night, launched back in 2001 where favourite dance djs are invited to rummage deep into their record boxes and pull out their most inspirational tunes... ever!
Then came the legendary DJ Death Match which she hosted alongside David Dunne where top jocks were invited to battle, the fond memories of the hilarious Defected vs Soulfuric battle still brings a tear to the eye!..
"the first lady of retro" (Time Out)
Back in summer 2002 Sarah presented a weekly 2 hour live show with co-host and fellow club jock, Ben Jam on Trustthedj.com. Favouritizm Live, much like the club night, featured big name DJs spinning their favourite tunes going out to 100,000 people worldwide per month. Picture a beautiful English Summer’s eve, as Brighton’s favourite beach bum’s, Bah Samba, enjoy cold beers and a BBQ feast on the vibrant pebbled shore, “I’m blowing up a beach ball.. with dynamite!” pipes Julian Bendall (Band Leader).. Then, out of an impromptu sunset acoustic jam spawned a brand new single titled ‘Live In The Summer’. Sunkissed in every way, ‘Live In The Summer’ is all about those precious months of glorious Summertime!.. Get yer shorts n’ flip flops on and try not to drop your 99 on the dancefloor PLEEEASE!!..
Beautifully vocalled by Tasita D’Mour (of Copyright, Kyoto & Sunlightsquare fame), Bah Samba deliver a peachy slice of Jazzy dancefloor soul with their ‘Calor Mix’, and its hardly surprising seeing the plethora of heavyweight musicians in the band: keys wizard Julian Bendall, Oli Savill / percussion (Basement Jaxx), Mark Ralph / guitar (from a very famous rock band), Tristan Banks / drums (Da Lata) Dom Glover / Trumpet (Groove Armada), Nichol Thompson / Trombone (TALC).. And even the mixing desk is a superstar - The Connie Plank Desk of which Kraftwerk's albums were mixed on. Additional remixes come from the global family, including Andy Ward who spent an afternoon at a local Spanish beach recording his kids playing in the sea.. The result is 2 epic soulful house monsters, a ‘Sunshine Vocal Mix’ laced with a jaw dropping breakdown and funky bass hook, and a super cool deep flavoured ‘Roasted Dub’. From the far away shores of Rio, DJ Meme (Favouritizm’s flip flop supplier) adds his Brazilian magic, delivering a sun-dreched latin tinged house groover with his ‘Havaianas Mix’. Over in NYC Filsonik sweats it out with his ‘Skorchio Dub’ - a hypnotic infectious groove riddled with a dramatic synth hook and insane beats deemed to have us all reaching for the air-con! On the hottest day of 2009, those London funk cats The Super-Phonics turned the boogie dial up to 11, and have delivered a smoooooking jam with the most incredible trumpet solo on their ‘SPF50 Vocal & Instrumental’ Mixes.
1995 saw the first incarnation of Bah Samba with a debut single ‘Carnival’ (Loaded). Later followed the now classic, ‘Reach Inside’ (Estereo) which was Alice Russell’s Bah Samba debut and the start of a long working relationship. Followed by numerous singles on Estereo, in 2001 Bah Samba released their self titled debut album, followed by the Latin Lounge Session and their mixed album titled Eclectica volume 1 in 2004. Bah Samba 4 (BKO) was released in 2005, spawning soulful hits including ’Portuguese Love’, ‘Calma’ ft. Isabel Fructuoso. In recent times Bah Samba have been performing with Jazz Legend Roy Ayers, including Southport Weekender festivals among many others worldwide. As a result they have released a joint single titled ‘Positive Vibe’ with new remixes from Louie Vega in Autumn on Vega Records.
Andy Ward is best known as one of the UK's finest DJs. A Soul Heaven resident, he presents one of the liveliest House shows ’The Vocal Booth’ and is due to launch his label of the same name in 2009. Since storming into the official UK charts as one half of Soul Central with ‘Strings Of Life’, Andy has had a flow of club hits including his current smash ‘Streets Of The Sun’ (Soul Heaven), alongside remixes for Fedde Le Grande, Su Su Bobien, Rosie Gaines and more. DJ Memê’s heartfelt music is a regular on our soulful dancefloors, he has remixed and produced soulful anthems including Kenny Bobien’s ‘I Shall Not Be Moved’, DJ Meme Orchestra ‘Any Love’ (Soulfuric), Jamie Lewis & Michael Watford’s ‘It’s Over’ and the massive dance anthem ‘The Cure &The Cause’ by Fish Go Deep (Defected) and others. New York’s Filsonik landed his 1st EP on Gotsoul records in 2004, since then he has gone on to produce and remix records on labels including Spacecat, Symple Sound, Funk La Planet, and working alongside Timmy Regisford on releases for Restricted Access & Unrestricted Access labels. As 1 half of Bahsonik with Julian Bendall they have made remixes for Nadirah Shakoor, Alexander O Neal, Danism, The Fatback Band, Tamara Wellons and many more. The Super-Phonics are a hybrid of Funk/Disco/House/Rare Groove, with band members Miss Lucy Jules, Jason Glover, Dominic Glover, Gary Crockett and Simon Bartholemew (BNH’s) along with guests. In 2007 they were responsible for Favouritizm’s first release ‘Dial L For Love’ which featured remixes from Bahsonik & Filsonik, gaining support from Louie Vega, Joe Claussell, Osunlade, DJ Spen, Danny Krivit and more! Their album 'Interstellar' is out now on Freestyle.

'Dial L For Love's delicate keys and hypnotic beats topped with heartfelt vocals from Miss Lucy Jules has already received support from soulful house heavyweights such as Louie Vega, Danny Krivit, Joe Claussell, Osunlade, DJ Spen, Alix Alvarez among many others, and looks set to be somewhat of an underground summer classic in the making!..

The Super-Phonics were born out of a conversation in a small bar in downtown Tokyo about 2 years ago after an Incognito gig at the Blue Note Club. Dominic Glover aka DJ Deirdre and friend Terry Washizu (A&R man at Pony Canyon Records Japan supped on a couple of pints of Guinness and pondered.. "What would be great" says Terry, "is if someone did a record along the lines of the Dj Joey Negro's project 'The Sunburst Band' but with (if possible) more Funk, more Disco, more Groovin' & Movin' to that 70's beat, You know, real musicians tearing the s**t out of their instruments with bootytastic get down and boogie grooves, and pumping heart-stopping basslines.".... "That's sounds right up my strasse. I could get plenty of the best musicians and record a wicked album for you..." Piped Dominic.. And so it came to pass that born into this world, a hybrid of Funk/Disco/House/ Rare Groove, was 'Interstellar', the new album from The Super-Phonics for Pony Canyon (Japan) due for release this summer on Freestyle (UK). The Super-Phonics core band members are ; Miss Luvy Jules on lead vocals, having sang for Beverley Knight & Brand New Heavies on BV's previously; Jason Glover writer/producer; Dominic Glover Writer producer/trumpet who has toured and recorded with Us3, Incognito, JTQ, The BNH's, Groove Armada, Gorillaz and more; Gary Crockett writer/producer/bass, Bass player with The James Taylor Quartet; and Simon Bartholemew, one of the founders of The Brand New Heavies, who has also worked with Jamiroquai among others. Other heavyweights culled together for The Super-Phonics project are the cream of the Acid Jazz & Funk scene - Jan Kincaid (BNH's), Jean Paul 'Bluey' Maunick (Incognito), Nick Van Gelder (Jamiroquai), Snowboy (The Latin Section), Jim Hunt (Primal Scream, Richard Ashcroft), Mike Smith (Blur, Gorillaz) and many more!
In November 2005, Julian Bendall from Latin-soul band Bah Samba, was sent a vocal from Ben Johnson (Syam) by Siji called 'It's My Turn', of which Julian made a demo remix of. So impressed by the demo, Ben flew Julian over to Syam Studios NYC, home of Quentin Harris & Scott Wozniak, where he met upcoming producer Filsonik from Club Shelter. Filsonik came up with beats and Julian added magical keys and together they discovered a unique sound of pretty music laced with deep Puerto Rican beats and hey presto! Bahsonik were born! Since, this dynamic duo have gone on to remix tracks such as Nadirah Shakoor 'Love Song' Youruba Soul, Alexander O Neal 'Lord', The Fatback Band 'Feel The Fire' and Maxine Braham 'If' for BKO, Tamara Wellons 'Oh Well' Ocha, and Emminence 'Do With You' Syam, with their work championed by the likes of Osunlade, Timmy Regisford, Sting International and Louie Vega. 2007 brings more excitement for Bahsonik as they put the finishing touches to their debut artist album titled 'Shake The Dog' due for release late 2007 on Syam. 'Shake The Dog' features a stellar line-up of artistes including Monique Bingham, Nadirah Shakoor, Siji, Jepthe Guillaume, Quentin Harris, Bah Samba, Liv Lykke, with more surprises to come!
