Join us as we celebrate the diverse and elemental artwork of Michael Dorsey. A catalogue of his work can be found from his East Carolina University exhibition here. Michael Dorsey received his Bachelor of Science in Art Education degree from Eastern Illinois University in 1971. He received his Master of Arts in Painting degree in 1972 and his Master of Fine Arts in Painting degree in 1973. Both graduate degrees were earned at Bowling Green State University in Ohio.
Dorsey served as a Professor in the Department of Art at Mississippi State University from 1973 to 1991. During nine of those eighteen years, he was Chair of the Department. In 1991, he came to East Carolina University as Dean of the School of Art. He served in that capacity until 2003 when he became Interim and Founding Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication. Dorsey returned to the faculty to teach in late fall, 2004. He is currently a Professor of Painting and Drawing in the ECU School of Art and Design. Dorsey has exhibited in more than 300 exhibitions since 1970 with numerous awards. His artwork is included in public and private collections in the United States, Wales, Scotland, France, Italy, Japan and New Zealand. Dorsey has reviewed scores of textbooks, conducted accreditation and academic program reviews and participated in art related consultantships across the United States. He has also served as an exhibition juror for professional art competitions in North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Ohio, and Illinois.
Join us for the premiere party on November 6th from 6-8pm for a gallery talk, live entertainment, light hors d'oeuvres and beverages. Welcome Chapel Hill's Patrick Phelan of Luego to our gallery space. Independent Weekly touts the band has "traded its orchestral dabbling for a rock solid foundation in Neil Young-type roots rock, Comboland pop and even a touch of T. Rex swagger." Members are free to the premiere, non-members are $5.

The Fayetteville Museum of Art was founded in 1971. Originally housed in downtown Fayetteville's historic Market House, the Museum moved in 1978 to its present facility that was the first building in the State of North Carolina designed and built as an Art Museum. In addition to the modern facility that includes two (2) galleries, classrooms, studio space, an Art Reference & Slide Lending Library, and a Museum Store, the Museum's 5.8 acre grounds and pond give the Fayetteville community a place to gather for relaxation. The park-like setting is an oasis in the midst of a heavily trafficked area; it is also utilized for large scale sculpture displays, art festivals and public concerts.
The galleries and Museum Store are open Monday through Friday from 10 am - 5pm; Saturdays and Sundays from 1 - 5pm; closed for the following holidays:
1. Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday
2. Good Friday
3. Memorial Day
4. Independence Day
5. Labor Day
6. Thanksgiving Day
7. Day After Thanksgiving
8. December 24 through January 1

I am truly blessed with the gift of your friendship. I'm very sorry that I haven't been in touch like I should have lately. With all that has been going on with Winston I have not gotten too many chances to be online. The weeks have really gone by fast. I praise God so much that Winston is improving and is almost back to 100%. Now we’re going through an uncertain future with JJ as he remains in ICU at the animal hospital. Hopefully everything will be fine and back to normal soon. Thank you for understanding and continuing to be my friend.
Love and Blessings Always,
Sharon & Family†

This is Stephen Pennink with Fayetteville State University. We are trying to show Fayetteville that students here at the university also support the museum and all its efforts. We are doing a project for SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) to show the economic impact that the art museum will have on Fayetteville. If there is ever any events or information that you can pass along to us via myspace please do so so that we can be involved as much as possible. Thanks so much!!
