2008 marks the 3rd full season for Full Contact Racing and driver, Dave McMeans. You can find the #70 Mustang kicking up dirt on the quarter-mile oval at Shippensburg Speedway on Saturday nights. If you make it out to an event, feel free to stop by and say hello to the crew.
As for Dave, he has a long history in racing. As a teenager he became acquainted with dirt track racing turning wrenches and building chassis and wings for the Central Pennsylvania Sprint Car team of John Mickle. After getting away from the dirt and turning his attention toward being a husband and father his passion for racing continued on the asphalt. However, this asphalt went straight in the form of a drag strip. Many of spring and summer weekends were spent with the family bonding at Beaver Springs Dragway, a quarter-mile drag strip in Central Pennsylvania.
A friend from Beaver Springs and now the driver of the NHRA Pro Stock Dodge Stratus (click to link), Max Naylor, reopened the doors to Numidia Raceway (the track had been closed for 5 years!)in 1988. Many upgrades and improvements had to be made. For the next 18 years or so Dave was known as the "Voice of Numidia Raceway" as the Track Announcer. Dave enjoyed his time as a charter member in the NHRA Track Announcers Guild for 11 years, and garnered many fantastic relationships throughout the NHRA Northeast Division with track announcers, track operators and NHRA Division 1 officials and management team.
Dave then moved on to announce at South Mountain Dragway in Boiling Springs, PA for another long time friend and track operator, Ron Wallace. As Max moved on to live his dream in the NHRA, Dave reacquainted himself with the dirt track scene. A family friend, Chris Smith, who happened to be the reigning track champion in the Thunder Rear division at Shippensburg Speedway got Dave "really interested" in the class. With the blessings from the real "king of the house", his wife Kim, he put together a race car and team (with the help of Chris and his brother Howie) over the winter and is now living his dream. The first 5 weeks were spent learning the ropes of this racing stuff behind the wheel of Chris' old championship ride that now belongs to Howie. A big thanks to them. LET'S GO RACING !!!
